Brief reprieve to slog out to Book Alcove in the rain. Daddy found Higgins books he hadn't read, plus a copy of Mutiny on the Bounty. And I found a children's book from 1961 called Pirates of the Spanish Main *squee* Also Middlesex and the omnibus edition of Hitchhiker, lovely fake-leather hardback with gold-edged pages. Saw a copy of Rubyfruit Jungle, but saved it for next time as the rest of the books were a bit more than I'd wanted to spend.
See, this is why I can't buy books regular price anymore. I'm accustomed not only to used prices, but also to buying in bulk. It's impossible for me to walk out of a bookstore -- any bookstore -- with just ONE book. Impossible.
They had Patrick O'Brian this time, but only Master and Commander and Far Side of the World, both of which we already have. Boo. Also, I figured out why I'm never able to find Neil Gaiman. They stick him in the Mystery section. WTF? I mean, American Gods I could maybe, maybe let slide, but Stardust is pure fairy-tale fantasy. Silly book people.
Back to the mines!
