the_dala at 12:30pm on 28/08/2003Well, this is it: my final day in G-burg. Tomorrow we leave at 5:30 sharp (*coughyeahrightcough*) for St. Mary's College, where I will grow and learn etc.
I'm the last one left, you know. As Megan said, the Dala stands alone.
Anyway, what I've been doing frantically (besides packing) for the past 48 hours is burning CDs. I am all done with those I wanted from Dad, except for the Stones, which I can't find, and now I'm doing a random mix of stuff I've downloaded and finally -- the H/D Mix. Oh yes, I'm finally doing it. I'd have to go into the diary to remember exactly when I first began concocting this mix, but I'd guess it was sometime last winter or early spring. I take my mixes very seriously. It took me half an hour just to decide the track listing, and I'm not even doing a cover at this point because that would be a weekend-long project. But as a result of all my hard work, I feel that I truly have the Best Damn H/D Mix Ever. It runs the gamut from foofy to ultra-dark. Some of the songs are associated with H/D fics; some of them just give me a H/D vibe. I'm going to post the mix here, with a short explanation of why I chose each song and links to the lyrics.
It's a big project. I told you that :).
1. "Give You Back," Vertical Horizon
Lyrics
This one was the one song I knew needed to go in a specific place, and that was FIRST. This is from Rhysenn's famed "Irresistible Poison;" for me, it defines H/D, and I get all choked up when I hear it. The lyrics are really only reminiscent of "IP," but it's the H/D Bible as far as I'm concerned, so there you go.

2. "Walk This World," Heather Nova
Lyrics
This is without a doubt a Draco song, from end to end. I love Heather Nova SO much and I was incredibly happy to find the perfect Draco lyrics. Plus, it's in the delivery -- the way she says, "I want you to come/I want you to come/Walk this world with me..." Oh yeah :)

This is a another quintessentially Draco song. I didn't even realize it was so perfect until I heard it on the radio (I've had Gutterflower since last Christmas, but usually choose Dizzy Up the Girl when I need some Goo).

This is just...bittersweet and romantic and impossibly beautiful. It actually may not be as appropriate as the other songs on the mix, but...I wanted an Eva song.
And yes, I do know that Cyndi Lauper & Co. wrote it; actually, I saw her perform on some morning show several months ago, and she was doing this in the exact same style as Eva did it. Because Eva's version is perfect.

I will suffer gladly through the many dark and disturbing H/D fics out there, but at the end of the day, I love a good slow-dance as much as the next gal.
