Religious Leaders Ahead in Iraq Poll

|s anybody surprised? I mean, at all.

I have a story to tell. Actually, it's somebody else's story, but it's the closest the war has come to personally affecting my life.

My suitemate Alexis got an e-mail from a friend of hers the other night. It was about how she was sorry that she hadn't been around for a month or so because of her sorority president, who is also her best friend. This girl was dating a Marine who was sent to Iraq. About a month ago, they got the telegram with news of his death. The whole house was emotionally wrecked, and they also found out that prior to his shipping out, the president and the Marine had secretly gotten married. So she is now a widow at the age of twenty-two.

Alexis finished up this tale with "And that's why we shouldn't be at war with Iraq." I think that pretty much sums it up.

It was the first time I really sat down and thought about what this is doing to an entire generation -- to my generation. Depends on how badly we continue to screw things up -- and I can't bring myself to believe, deep down, that Kerry won't somehow contribute to the fucking mess if he is elected, because what can we possibly do now but that? -- but soon enough, it might not even be necessary to attach an "Of course it's not on the same scale as Vietnam" to that statement.

Last night I had a dream that Vanessa was badgering me with, like, a Republican manifesto. And I said I'd read it and I still thought it was full of shit.

My head is in a million different places today, but I just had that to say.
