In today's exciting edition of Stuff I Have In My Room, we're going to first take an inventory of the items currently on my desk and then the CDs sitting right next to me. Does this not make for compelling LJ-reading? I certainly think so. And you can never tell when you're going to want to know exactly how your freshman dorm room was arranged. This information could one day be of importance to national security.

Okay. So we're start at what I'm staring at: my lovely Dell monitor. I don't know what model it is or how much memory it has or even how much it cost my dear dear parents, but I do know that it is black and flat-screened, and I love it with a burning passion. Directly beneath it is the keyboard, also black, propped up on the monitor's base to give me so wrist space. On my immediate left I have a stack consisting of two CDs and two DVDs (the contents of which are to be discussed in another edition of SIHIMR). Right behind them, adjacent to the back of the monitor, is the left speaker, which is gray and which I also love. It is sitting on some small piece of white paper I don't care enough about to describe in further detail. And right behind it, I have two packet of fancy Land-o-Lakes cocoa. Mmmm, cocoa. Behind the monitor I can see some type of paper, looks like a manual, under the wires, but again, it is not important. On to the right side of the desk. The first things you see, starting at the back of the desk next to the tangle of computer wires and descending down towards me, is a water bottle cap, a bottle of Neutragena sunblock on its side, another CD case, a different type of water bottle cap, and the mousepad, which is an old-fashioned-looking portrait-world-map with a dark red border. Directly on top of this mousepad is my mouse, which is black and has the little scrolling wheel I didn't have at home and am now addicted to. Going backwards, you will find the righthand speaker, which contains the on/off/volume switch, a box of rewritable blank CDs, and a box of floppy diskettes (none of which I've used yet). Also, on top of the speaker, there is the day sheet for this past Saturday/Sunday of my calender, which will be described in greater length later. To the right of these items is the black and white photo of Us All at my graduation party that Dad had framed, more calender day sheets, a large bottle of Lubriderm, a blue hankerchief with my Six Flags mug (containing a fork I borrowed from Karen and haven't washed yet) on it, and a clear plastic straw wrapper. Beside the mug/hankerchief is a bag with two greeting cards in it and a notice about studying abroad meetings. The last item on my desk is my sub-woofer, which is large and black and imposing and I'm not really sure what it does, exactly, or how it works, but I certainly appreciate my dad getting for me. On top of the woofer are two DVD sets, my plastic jar of beef jerkey, the last of my blank non-rewritable CDs in a cool circular case, and a red sippy cup (it came in the care package) in a bright yellow Oldies 100.3 cupholder.

The second stage of my desk is the shelf, situated above everything else. Once again we start on the left. First thing in front is the aforementioned day calender, which is SW: AOTC and today has a very cute picture of Hayden. Peeking out from behind that is a little mock-Beanie Baby Eeyore. The calender rests slightly against my desk lamp, which is metallic-blue with various compartments on the base and a twisty neck. The compartments are empty save for a small Oldies 100.3 inflatable beach ball and one of my royal blue field hockey hair ribbons tied about the lamp neck. In front of and slightly to the right of the lamp is my beloved purple candle from New Orleans, which says "The Magick of New Orleans: The Spirit of Writing" on the front and smells like perfection. A small plastic Yoda figurine is next to that, and behind Yoda is my little oval soapstone box from the Smithsonian, with a rose quartz egg, a piece of sodalite, and a tiny chunk of aquamarine inside. Right behind that is the tall mug that was a psych gift from Jackie last year: blue with gold puffpaint lettering, from here I can only see the "BURG" part of G-burg and the TROJANS #1. Inside the mug is the pair of pink, panda-covered chopsticks Katherine once gave me. Next to the mug is the "Pirates of the Carolina Coast" shot glass from Megan, with a Nag's Head souvenir spoon (with an actual nag on top) that I think I meant to give to her once but kept forgetting. Directly in front of Mr. Pirate is the porcelin frog figure, reclining in a very suggestive posture, from Katherine that is supposed to be the resting place for the chopsticks but they always slide down. Mr. Frog has a jade bracelet from Katherine around his neck, and shares his habitat with a small china Connemara pony I think I got for Christmas one year, and the smaller clear glass pony with a blue mane and tale that Jessie once gave me. In front of them (in fact blocking them from my direct line of sight) is the little redwood jewlery box I got from Katherine one Christmas, and resting on top of that is the amythest tree she gave me for a birthday present some other year. Between the box/tree and Yoda is a little orange ball with green lizardlike head and limbs protruding from it (I don't know what it is, it sort of looks like a Koosh ball -- man, remember those things? -- and it came in the care package). To the right of these things is a mini-Care Bear, Cheer Bear to be exact, my perennial favorite because of the rainbow on her tummy. Behind Cheer Bear is the fat white cat bank Katherine gave me, and behind it is propped up a beautiful glossy of Hugh Jackman. Mmmm, Hugh. Next over is a calender day sheet with my grandmother's phone number on it, and last thing on the desk shelf -- in fact taking up half the space -- is my lovely Dell black-and-gray modem, with its extra drive for burning CDs or playing DVDs.

And those are the contents of my desk.

Whew, okay, I lied about the CDs, I'll do those later. That was fuckin' exhausting. And also probably boring to anyone who isn't me.
