It's the return of the Snarky History Textbook!

While this, my American Government: Balancing Democracy and Rights by Marc Landy and Sidney M. Milkis, is not the same as last year's Snarky History Textbook (which we actually never used), it seems to have its own agenda of snark. Consider this conclusion, from the first-chapter insert on voter turnout in the United States:

"Every citizen has the right to be lazy, apathetic, and politically irresponsible."

*sigh* Oh how I love snarky textbooks. Especially Snarky History Textbooks. They make the student's life so much more interesting.

Ah yes, in Art History today I learned a new word! Ithyphallic: it means erect, in a penile sense. Perhaps it is not the most versatile of words, but I'm certainly glad to know about it. Now I can classify phallic objects and symbols even more concisely.

I wonder if there's a corresponding term that means flaccid, in a penile sense?

I am so STUPID.

Here I am, being all virtuous and scholarly in actually doing my PolySci reading nearly twenty-four hours before (I think) it's due, completely forgetting that I DON'T HAVE POLYSCI AGAIN TILL MONDAY.

I am DUMB.

Oh well. At least I discovered that my textbook is snarky. That's gotta count for something.

Oh yeah, and is it me, or do the titles for the songs on the PotC soundtrack really not match up to the scene in which that piece of music was used?

Just got back from watching "Platoon" for Methods. We have to do some crap involving it and Aristotle, but I can't even think about that right now, because the movie really affected me. On a bunch of levels I can't even comprehend, that're still making me uneasy as I type this. This is why I don't watch war movies (naval movies are totally different, even if they have battles). Vietnam is in a whole 'nother category too. I'm gonna be unsettled for awhile, at least for the rest of the night. I wanted to get a bit further in Cold Mountain, but I don't think that's the proper book for my current state of mind.

Johnny Depp was all kinds of cute, though.

Yeah, I can be shallow any old time.

Kind of want to write on the J/N-on-the-way-back-to-Port-Royal fic I started right before I left.

Or maybe just chill and mindlessly play Spider Solitaire. That works too.

Okay. No more reading advocate.com articles when I'm a. emotional and b. politically stirred up. I'm itching to do something. Rachel says all the Dem club does is sit around and watch "The West Wing," but I'm still thinking of checking it out.

I wish I was home, closer to D.C. I'd be able to feel the pulse of things more. I know that sounds stupid, but it's my city and I love it, and it's where things happen.

Oh, and why the FUCK is Vanessa still going to bed at 11:00 every fricking night? No more 8 AM classes! We're college students for god's sake! This is sad and pathetic! I went to bed later than this when I was in high school!
