Ohmygod. I did not just spend a small fortune in Borders, AGAIN.

I went in for two (2) things: "Hidalgo" and Howie Day's Stop All the World Now. The first I found easily enough, but they didn't have the second. What they did have was a 'Buy any book, get any CD 25% off' summer sale. Oh, you dastardly summer sale. You know I cannot resist the illusion that I'm saving money by spending it. But I had lusting after The Pirate Hunter by Richard Zacks for some time now, and it was such a very good sale, so I figured what the hell, I can pay regular price for a book now and then. So here I am with one movie, one (horriblyoverpricedandImissmyBookAlcove) book, and a search for a regular-price CD. They've still got their 25% off Rock Essentials sale going on, but I masterfully resist while I wander around trying to figure out what I want. I get this strange hankering for Ryan Adams' cover of "Wonderwall," so I pick up his full Love Is Hell album. Then I poke through the bargain bin, which is a nasty habit of mine, and I find the "West Side Story" movie soundtrack -- and it's cheap! Huzzah! Naturally I must snatch it up, because how often are you going to find something like that on sale? I mosey on up to the checkout, with one DVD, one book, and two CDs in my possession, all but one of them on sale (SALE!). Something at the counter -- I don't even remember what -- reminds me that I really, really meant to pick up Dido's Life For Rent when I fell in love with "Don't Leave Home," but it's never on sale. Thanks to Borders' trickery, NOW IT CAN BE. So I break out of line and scamper downstairs, grabbing the CD. Problem? Now I've been carrying around Ryan Adams for ten minutes, and I suddenly can't walk out of that damn store without him. And I think, well, this is a kick-ass sale, surely one more teensy tiny book couldn't hurt. Then I can have the first half of Love In Hell, which has "Wonderwall" on it, for only six bucks. A steal! Ha! I'm almost like a pirate! Since the history section is on the ground floor with the music, I scour it for more pirate books, finally choosing Women Sailors and Sailors' Women by David Cordingly because, well, because duh.

All right. The total is one DVD, three CDs, two books (BUT IT'S ON SALE!!! ::sobs::) I hightail it outta there before I can do any more damage.

But right at the foot of the stairs is where they keep their display of British music magazines. And right up in front is a special all-U2 edition of...something. I don't know, it's British, so it's not Rolling Stone or Spin or Guitar World.

U2. U2. My favorite band in all the world. The band for whom I have a special concert ticket fund stashed away in my handmade My Stuff pot, despite the fact that they haven't set down any tour dates or, y'know, finished the new album.

And dammit, I've got Jack in my head whispering, "How can you pass that up, eh?"

Lordy.

Poor college student! Crappy part-time job! Driving up to Ohio to visit Tina in a couple weeks (hopefully)! What'm I doing?!

No more spending money for the REST OF THE SUMMER. NO excuses.

I'm going to take the receipt, tear it into little bits, and swallow it.

ETA: Eeep! "Tonight"'s got dialogue all through it! Mom's dusty, skipping old record didn't have this version! "Te adoro, Anton." *wibble*

Also? I love Ryan Adams.

Oh wow. This half an album is good, but "The Shadowlands"? Is absolutely fanfuckingtastic. The lyrics are a little Springteenish, which is rarely a bad thing, and the guitarwork for the last minute and a half...dayam. DAMN, that's good stuff.

No, I take it back, it reminds me more of Jackson Browne than Springsteen. Whatever, doesn't matter, it's awesome.
