WRITING. WRITING. Finally WRITING. And on a WIP to boot!

Ohhhh, that feels good.

And now I have to do bio reading, boo. But first, a quick question to anybody who might know: PotC-era disease that might make a woman sterile? It seems plausible to me, but I can't think of what one would actually be.

Alrighty, so what I'm working on is the Sparrington supernatural semi-Buffy-crossover, and I'm introducing Jack to his first vampire, and you know what?

I've forgotten what vampires sound like when they go poof.

How many vampires did I watch and hear Buffy and Scoobs dust over the years? If you go for an average of, say, five vampires in one episode -- and that's a pretty darn conservative estimate -- and there are seven seasons, twenty-two episodes a season (with only twelve in the first), that gives you roughly 144 episodes, and therefore 720 dustings. That's not even taking into account the two and a half seasons of "Angel," or the fact that I've seen every "Buffy" ep at least twice (except for most of S7, because, duh).

And I can see it, but I can't hear it.

Thank goodness for DVD releases, is all I can say.

(Jack: What the hell does it matter what it sounds like? It's dead. I'm safe. All is well.
Dala: No thanks to you, you slut.
Jack: I could've taken it. I didn't need my arse saved.
Dala: Uh-huh, sure.
James: May I remind you about little details like plot and original character development?
Dala: Shut up, both of you. I'm popping "Welcome to the Hellmouth" in.
Jack: I'm sure we can think of some way to occupy ourselves while you're busy.
James: *mmmphh*)

ETA:Okay, got the sound. Gonna be a bitch to describe, though.

You know one more really great thing about fall? I stop buying stuff because Christmas is only a few months away. I can totally walk into Borders now and leave with my checkbook intact.

That is, if St. Mary's County had a Borders.

From Dan Froomkin in The Washington Post (you have to register to read the articles, but I'll c&p to save effort - although it's free):

The news has been kind to the White House for a few weeks, with media attention largely focused on the Republican convention and the attacks on John Kerry's war record.

But today is looking pretty tough.

Headlines blare the news that the death toll in Iraq has crossed the 1,000 milestone.

There are also big headlines about Bush's record $422 billion budget deficit and the multi-trillion-dollar deficit projections for the future.

Then there are all the stories about Vice President Cheney's jaw-dropping statement yesterday that a Kerry victory would result in more terrorist attacks. Even his own staff is qualifying it.

Bush's spotty National Guard record during the Vietnam War is turning into a full-fledged media conflagration, with more stories out today and "60 Minutes" weighing in tonight.

Plus, Sen.Bob Graham (D-Fla.) is all over the media charging Bush with covering up evidence that might have linked Saudi Arabia to the Sept. 11 hijackers.

And while the mainstream press is not putting stock in unauthorized biographer Kitty Kelley's hazily sourced allegations of past drug use by Bush, everybody -- at least everybody on the Internet -- seems to be talking about it.

It certainly isn't like the carefully scripted weeks of yore.

Do you think, perhaps, the media is WAKING UP?

That Cheney quote really was going too far. I mean, we all know that that's what they've been implying for months, but to actually come right out and say it? Why do we let them get away with this shit?

Here's to hoping that we're going to stop.

I've been really spammy today, no? 'Cause I'm bored. Sailing was canceled due to rain.

These apple rings from Trader Joe's are perrrrfect.

ONE MORE QUESTION, this one a bit more desperate.

Anybody with access to the BtVS episode "The Wish," or a really good memory: can you tell me if Wish-verse Buffy's scar is on the right side of her mouth or the left? Because in this icon, it looks like the right, but I can't be sure ::squints::

Well, I guess it doesn't really matter, but if I'm going to go to the trouble of casting my OCs, I might as well be thorough about it.

All my "Buffy" tapes are at home, and I don't have S3 on DVD *sulk*

I'm going to stop spamming. Right after this here post.

Am throwing the beginning of the PotC/BtVS crossover out here, f-locked, just to make sure it's...well, working. Not that there's much in here. Is very short. I'm not trying to be a tease, but I'm also to lazy to get an actual beta (though if you want to tear into it, tear away). It's not going to be an epic, but it does look as though it's going to become quite long.

Anyway, here we are. No title as of yet. I'm contemplating "As You Were," which is also the title of a S6 ep -- not a very good one, mind, but it would be appropriate.

A note about the slayer in this fic: she is not Buffy, nor is her watcher Giles. It's technically a crossover with Buffy, because I am using conventions of that universe, but it's a 17th/18th century version. And there will be exposition in the fic, so familiarity with the Buffyverse is not really necessary. However, the slayer is based on Buffy as she appears in the alternate universe of "The Wish" (Bizzaro World Buffy, if you like), so you'll get a picture of her right off (she's in this icon). I 'cast' her watcher as Paul Bettany, but he's not based on any specific characters.

I'm talking mostly to myself at this point. Ignore me.

Moving. On.
