For some blessed unfathomable reason, VH1 has just played the video of "Sunday Bloody Sunday" from Red Rocks. And it...god. God I love this band, and I love them how they were then. Bono's insistence that "this is not a rebel song," the way he jams the white flag down onto whatever he thought was going to hold it on the stage, the way he swaggered and marched and pranced around the stage, directing the crowd like a preacher. His sweat, his mullet, his tight (tight!) pants, his black tank top with his own band's name on it -- that is Bono in a nutshell. Not that he is ever alone up there -- there were a lot of excellent shots straight on the Edge, and then focused on Bono but with the Edge's guitar and his fingers in the lefthand corner of the screen. The way he always moved (and still does, come to think of it) his hips when he's playing. His plaid lumberjack vest. The way he and Bono stood side by side when Bono could be bothered to stand in the same spot for more than two seconds (RPS, me? ::whistles innocently::). And Larry, bless him, looking like a fourteen-year-old blond girl at the drumkit. But he likes it back there, after all. Adam in the blond curly moppet look I like best, who you can tell is not invested heart and soul in the material like Bono, but who just looks out at the screaming people and fucking loves being a rock star.
