Y'all, I am so prepared for this storm. At first I was considering crashing at my parents' house, but this morning I said no, I will go to the Target and buy candles and batteries like a motherfucking ADULT. Well, and they had a severely depleted candle supply and no batteries whatsoever so I had to go get some from my dad, but still.
I have two big pitchers and two Nalgenes full of water in the fridge. I have the candles and flashlight sitting ready on the table - some tea lights, a small pillar, and a pack of tapers. Fortunately I have these two big glass hurricane vases that came as a free gift with something; they're perfect for steady light. All the dishes are clean. I charged my iPod, Kindle, and phone to capacity (I wish I could say the same for Artoo, but the battery's so dead it only has juice for thirty minutes. So I'm currently downloading and converting some Dexter episodes to put on the iPod). Bones has a nearly-full tank of gas. I have bread, peanut butter, bananas, cereal, milk, and a pack of ramen for if I can bring myself to light the stove with a match. I also made two cheese-and-bean quesadillas so the full package of shredded cheese didn't go to waste; there's not a whole lot in the fridge to spoil if it comes to that.
Most importantly, I have a bottle of Virginian viognier chilling in the fridge. I am ready.
Hope everyone on the East Coast is doing well!
ETA: I have two Dexter eps, "The Last Exorcist" (I just finished a book about modern exorcists and I'm curious to see if I'll still like the rest of it now that I know the terrible ending is coming), and the pilot for Hawaii 5-0 is converting. Just putting some water on to boil for delicious, non-nutritious ramen. Meanwhile I've been watching Gilmore Girls on Soap Net (which has the most hilarious commercials) and it's on "Twenty-one Is the Loneliest Number," so I really hope the power can hold out for another hour.
ETA2: Favorite part of weather coverage? The sad, wet local newscasters in their rain slickers being buffeted by the wind, trying desperately to sound less miserable than they are to the cheerful anchor. Do you think they draw straws for that job?
Aww, they just showed the boardwalk at Ocean City. The Wild Mouse! Hello, my childhood.
I added some chili powder, paprika, and Worcestershire sauce (my love for W-sauce, I cannot even tell you) to my beef ramen and that was a new and exciting flavor. But I just couldn't bring myself to crack open a good bottle of wine to accompany it. And now I really wish I hadn't resisted the siren call of the Ben & Jerry's Red Velvet Cake ice cream at Target.
