the_dala at 03:55pm on 28/09/2011So I'm officially the last person in the world to pick up Mark Reads/Watches, which is rather astonishing because a. he mostly covers my favorite things in life and b. I love recaps. I totally have favorite recaps on TWoP that I reread from time to time (although I don't keep up nearly as regularly as I used to. Why must Jacob get all my shows?)
I read all the Firefly posts, and made it through the miniseries and a few eps of BSG before deciding that no, I really need to do my own rewatch first (when I get through the rest of Dexter and TNG and fuck knows what else). Instead I started the His Dark Materials section. Watching Mark lose the entirety of his shit over one of the stories that lives inside my soul is vastly entertaining. But I just had to take a pause because, in reacting to the chapter where Lyra's spying gets her in deep trouble at Bolvangar, he copies out the passage where she's captured.
And all these years later, through at least a dozen rereads and the additional filter of a blog post? Reading the words "One of the men was holding Pantalaimon" still made me want to throw up and cry right here at my desk.
In conclusion, Philip Pullman is fucking amazing.
And I may need to do another reread. Honestly, for as many times as I've read TGC, I've only made it all the way through The Amber Spyglass twice because it absolutely destroys me. Perhaps I'll track the cast audiobooks down - I've heard they're terrific and I need a break from Threepio's Mavis Beacon voice every now and then.
