Right quick before I forget (and so I can put off the ethnography a bit longer) --
linaelyn tagged me for the 7 songs meme. Yay! I never get tagged! So, 7 songs I've been listening to a lot recently:
1. "Maria" from "The Sound of Music" has been stuck in my head ALL DAY. No, I do not know why.
2. "One Man Guy," Rufus Wainwright. I've cribbed all four Rufus albums over MyTunes and fallen deeply in love with him and his magnificent velvet voice. This is my current favorite track; I love the wink-wink-nudge-nudginess of it (his father, Loudon Wainwright III, wrote the tune, but for Rufus it...has a second layer of meaning)
3. "The Night Santa Went Crazy," Weird Al Yankovich. Nothing gets me into the holiday spirit like "Merry Christmas to all -- now you're all gonna DIE!" Plus it's a Meg song.
4. "Oh My God," the Kaiser Chiefs. Jeanne's boyfriend had this group on while we were toodling around before Hallowgreens, and this song really stuck with me -- the chorus goes "Oh my God I can't believe it/I've never been this far away from home"
5. "I'll Cover You (reprise)" from RENT (the original, though I really want the movie soundtrack as well. Because Jesse L. Martin sends chills down my spine on "When your heart has expired" every. Single. Time.
6. "Personal Jesus," Johnny Cash. I love this song, and I think it's just as good a cover as "Hurt." Well, maybe not quite. "Hurt" is one of the most perfect covers ever.
7. "60B (Etown Theme)," Nancy Wilson. Because I use Grace O'Malley as my alarm clock, and I wake up to this song every morning.
