Since I had to get up early on my first day of break, I treated myself with a stop at Book Alcove, since it was on the way home. (I had to wait around in 7-11 until it opened, so I flipped through the Sexiest Man Alive Issue of People. I'm not gonna argue with Clooney. Johnny was in it, of course, as the Sexy for the month of July. No Orlando, though, and no Clive! If I can't have Davenport, I should at least get the other green-eyed, dark-haired handsome Brit, dammit. Oh, and there was a REALLY SEXY picture of Jamie Bamber with a towel. That man likes his towel.)

And I discovered a section behind the sciences, which I had never before seen, probably because it was behind the sciences.

It is called "Ships, Etc." This is in addition to the naval history section.

My bookstore is TEH AWESOMEST.

I got a book of essays on the naval and maritime history of the early United States, which is exciting because a. interesting and b. possibly ties in with my senior sem paper topic. The Cato and Lynx aren't in it, but the Lady Washington is, also Constellation and Constitution. I also found some McCullough hardbacks in the new arrivals section and grabbed 1776. I call this section the Estate Sale, because it's usually full of books which obviously come from the same person, about a country, historical period, or person. For example, somebody's Disraeli collection is still mostly there, and there was a new selection of books on Russian history. It makes me kind of sad, because I'm always thinking that the collections are there because their owners have passed on and nobody was there or cared to take the books. Maybe they moved, though. Anyway, it's usually a great source for British Isles history, and most of the stuff doesn't actually seem to be relocated elsewhere even when it's not new anymore. There's also the shelf of autographed books above it; today there was a new $75 signed copy of Queen of the Damned. I despise Anne Rice, but still. And lastly, I ran over to fiction and grabbed a copy of Mary Renault's Fire From Heaven. I actually went in there looking for Mary Roach's Stiff, which I started reading at Jeanne's last weekend, but they didn't have it. It'll keep until Christmas. I find it very difficult to buy books at full price.
