Today is one of those days I just shouldn't have ever gotten out of bed.
Things lost and/or misplaced today:
1. coat at Calvert Marine Museum Library
2. ID card at gym
3. B key
Technically I left the coat at the library on Friday, but I couldn't pick it up until today. The ID I picked up on my way to take care of the third problem. See, I splashed some milk on my keyboard this morning, and freaking out, pried up the B key to swab underneath it, assuming I could snap it back on the way you can with desktop keys. Not so, my friends. Unable to get to key back on, I called the computer help desk, where they grudgingly told me to bring it in (technically they're not supposed to "fix" computers, but I don't think this hardly counts). I put the key and the little white frame that had come loose beneath it in my coat pocket and stopped at the gym to get my ID. I suppose I forgot about the B in my pocket, because I dropped my keys in the exact same location. When I got to the campus center parking lot, I fished in my pocket for the B and found only the little white thing. I can't think of any other explanation but that I dropped it when I took my keys out of my pocket at the gym (they're deep pockets, without any holes, and it's unlikely the B would've fallen out on its own.
Thoroughly disgusted with myself, I decided to just forge on ahead to Calvert Marine and come back to check for the key, which was likely already ground into the mud. I stopped at Best Buy in town to explain the problem at Geek Squad, where a rather cute tech told me that the only solution was to replace the entire keyboard. For $200. He did not look surprised when I said, "Oh. Never mind."
I scoured the general area where I parked when I got back, but no B. I didn't check at the desk, because a. who would turn in a random computer key? and b. it's fucking embarrassing. Instead I came back here and cut a makeshift key out of my used Dave and Busters card, which is at least black to match the keyboard. It does not, however, have a B on it.
Ummm...has this ever happened to any of you guys? Or do you have a spare B that would fit a Dell Inspiron B(oh the irony)130? Otherwise I don't know what to do but soldier on with my homemade not-B key.
...I'm gonna go take a nap.
