Whoa. I finally saw "The Prestige," as I prefer to see movies nowadays -- in the campus theater, for free (with free popcorn! Thanks, Dan!), with an audience of fellow students who laugh and gasp and yell "What the HELL just happened?!" and applaud at the end. I'm not being sarcastic; it's fun.

Anyway, I liked it very much. I love the non-linear storylines, and it kept my mind fully engaged the whole way through until the very, very end, when the trick was over and I checked out a bit. Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Michael Caine, and David Bowie were all fantastic (seriously, does Michael Caine ever fail to totally rock the house?). I question the casting of Scarlett Johansen -- she's beautiful and she looks great in a corset, but I'm becoming less and less convinced of her actual talent. But she's not really the point of the movie, so I can let that go. I was so engrossed I scarcely thought of the fannish aspects of it, but I would totally ship Borden/Borden. Also, I wish Julia had been around longer just because I love Piper Perabo.

I might not have expected it to be so dark, except that it's Christopher Nolan so I figured. I'm not sure it's quite as clever as it thinks it is, but it's certainly cleverer than 80% of the movies out there, and it was a deftly told story. I'd definitely watch it again.
