Woooooo. It's World Carnival weekend and we managed to catch the Irish band closing today's festivities. They earned my love with decent covers of "Streams of Whiskey" and "Drunken Lullabies," but I was most impressed with their touching original balled "No One Licked My Balls At the Party Last Night." The really fun part? I went with Laura. In addition to the ball-licking (BALLICKYLICKY!) song, there was a fabulous tongue-in-cheek tune about what God likes and doesn't like (Americans, fundamentalists, voting Republican; health care, the Pope, Canadians, etc.). Oh, and they did the Phish version of "Gin and Juice." Also, two extremely hot boys were dancing all close like two people to our right. To her credit, she was a good sport, and still danced and shouted the chorus to the beer song and stay until the end. Then I was gonna meet Jeanne to go to a costume party at the door, but they left the concert before we did, and I think they already left. No big, since I'm sort of beat and I also have a remix to beat into final submission.
Anyway, it was a good night. We also saw the play, The Mandrake, a comedy by (apparently) Machiavelli. It was done Italian street comedy style and was very entertaining. The best part, though, was the set. We have a tiny, minimalist theater, but this set was awesome. It was set up like a piazza, symmetrical, with multiple doorways leading backstage, alcoves that were revolving doors, an astroturf floor, and a fountain. This was a pool of real water, with two girls who played sort of living statues atop it. And yes, eventually somebody fell into the water, which we spent the whole play waiting for. And it did not disappoint. Very impressive. Maybe not as good as Fuente Ovehuna -- that had some amazing performances -- but this definitely had the highest production value.
BTW, one of my long-term life goals is to learn Irish dance. If I don't get to it, I am so signing my kids up for lessons.
Oh yay, "Shaun of the Dead" is on! That's perfect Friday the 13th viewing material. Even if it is now technically Satuday the 14th. Details ::shrugs::
