::yawns:: It's been a very long week. First there was class, on Tuesday and, newly, on Wednesday. Unfortunately both lectures are at a time in the afternoon when I find it really difficult to stay awake for about an hour. I'm going to have to bring caffeine from now on.
Then on Thursday we went in two groups to the National Oceanography Centre to take a ride on the uni's research vessel. This meant much cold and wind and extra lectures, but it was fun anyway. After discussing it with Marissa, I felt like slightly less of an evil bitch for being severely annoyed at a few girls in our class, who constantly look sour-faced and as if they're too good to be doing whatever we're doing. Also, one of them had the most annoying laugh I've ever heard. It's like the second part of the Woody Woodpecker laugh - not the 'hahahaHAha!" but the drilling-into-wood part. It makes me want to spork my eyes out. Anyway, I am not the only one who wants to know what the hell crawled up these girls' butts and died. (They are all American, btw.) By the time we got back to the city, all we could talk about was food, so we grabbed some lunch at a pub and had the most delicious cobbler - apple, rhubarb and ginger.
Then I bought some Wellington boots and we wandered back home, where I sat down and worked on the second part of the Weatherby&Teague AU until it was finished, which was something like two hours after I'd meant to go to bed. I also happened to listen to a KT Tunstall song and changed the title, because the lyrics are perfect. And yes, that was my unsubtle hint at having posted REDLIGHTKLANGficREDLIGHTKLANG; it got far fewer comments than the first part, and I am confused.
I was supposed to go to bed early so I could get up early to go do fieldwork, yay! About half my programme showed up to help record a small boat hulk that is actually in the mud on the River Hamble. So we didn't dive, but we did get stuck in black, stinky mud. My boots turned out to be a bit too short, so I may replace them fairly soon. It was good fun, Marissa and I worked on one of the profile views. I generally suck at the drawing elements of profiles, but it turned out reasonably okay, despite the fact that I forgot to put such important things as the baseline, a scale, and the date. After coming back for a nap, Marissa and I ventured out to look for gardening gloves when most of the shops were already closed. We struck out at ASDA (::shudders::), but I did get some nice warm socks for future excursions.
One of which is actually today: we're going to the New Forest for some hands-on craft traditions learning, which as far as I can tell involves making rope. Should be fun, although about a quarter of the class is extremely concerned about getting back for the rugby final at 8. And I had really better go get dressed.
