The featured article on Yahoo's homepage is titled 'Yes, you can have chocolate.' Wow, thanks, Yahoo ::rolls eyes:: I hate how often they think diet tips (always aimed at women) constitute front-page 'news.'
I had the weirdest sleeping experience last night. I went to bed around 2, then woke up at 5:30 for no apparent reason. Like, wide awake, not sleepy and groggy. It was too warm, but I tried to go back to sleep. I woke up again just before 7, because somebody's alarm was going bananas. It was still too warm and now it was also light outside. Very irritating. Back to sleep, only to wake up AGAIN at 8:15. I finally called it a morning at 8:45 and got up, grumbling about the bright bright sunshine coming through my light curtains. Ugh. I may have to start wearing a sleep mask. I can't do anything about the temperature of the room, because opening the windows will only result in the birds (which chirp AT ALL HOURS OF NIGHT AND DAY) waking me up.
At least I don't feel poorly rested, even if I know I am.
I had kind of an awesome idea for a fic last night. You know when they do a documentary/interview episode of a TV show? Like the 'COPS' ep of 'The X Files,' and the BSG ep where D'Anna first appears and there is Apollo in a towel. Anyway, I was rereading my pirate paper and thinking that could be done with Captain Johnson's A General History of Pyrates. Because allegedly he really did speak with some of the subjects of the book. It would be quite an involved project, because either you'd have to relate some generalized passages in the book to our characters, or come up with a reason for him not to include those particular observations. It might even be written diary-style.
I just love the idea of a guy following Jack around, scribbling his every thought and opinion down for posterity. Because you know Jack would get a kick out of it. A lot of the minor pirates would probably like it too. But I imagine his attempts to figure Elizabeth out would irritate her to no end. Almost nothing is known about Johnson, after all, and one could make him a drama queen and blatant shipper like Andrew in 'Storyteller.'
Since I don't have time for the research right now, I'm offering the bunny to anyone who wants it. If not, I might try it this summer if I can track down a readable copy of the book (the one I used for my pirate paper used a fake-old-timey cursive font, and was incredibly frustrating to read).
I'm feeling quite fannish again. Last night I started watching AWE for the first time on DVD. It's awesome to watch it with subtitles to catch every little missed line (i.e., Elizabeth's words to Sao Feng that you can't really hear because they cut away to the gang beneath the floorboards), and to be able to rewind. So far I've only picked up little new things, nothing major. I will freely admit that I think the dueling captains cut scene is hysterical. Still pissed that there aren't more substantial deleted scenes and commentary, however. The CoBP deleted scenes are some of the best I've ever seen, because while cutting them didn't remove anything truly essential from the plot, every one offers additional insight into the characters. The only cut scenes we got for AWE (and...are there ANY for DMC? I don't recall) are useless to a writer. Sigh. It wouldn't be such a grievance if the first film didn't have such awesome extras.
