Knee-jerk reaction: great ep. One of the best of the season, or at least what little of the season I can remember.
I love this continuing Lorelai-is-doing-badly-financially arc, and how subtle it is. I've never found her as difficult to like as some, but this is absolutely endearing. It irks me that Rory is so clueless about her mother's money trouble, but I don't find it out of character. She's a sensible kid, but she's also a little spoiled and self-involved.
Never get tired of seeing Emily freak out. "LORETTA (WHATEVERHERSURNAMEWAS), LORELAI!" Fun to see Miss Patty and Babette again, plus some extra helpings of Kirk. Oh, and Gypsy! Man do I love Gypsy, especially when she's being bitchy to Jess, who is, by the way, not only meh now but downright hateful. There is absolutely nothing the writers could do for him that would make me forgive him for what he said to Luke. I don't care where it came from, I don't care how screwed up he is or how many times he's been screwed over, I hate him for that.
Luke....*sigh* Luke is one of my favorite characters in anything, EVER. Him tipsy in Lorelai's house tonight just broke my heart. I was shrieking "Go! Hug him! He needs a hug!" There was no hug, but there was definitely touching. Touching is always good -- especially when they were almost holding hands. I think it was Luke spoiled that moment. And the thing at the end with the earrings. "They're a gift...from Liz. She really wanted you to have them." Yeah, I'm sure Lorelai believed that.
I loved Lorelai's dress for the function, and her coat. I would kill to have the wardrobe on this show. And the bodies, of course, but that's another story.
No Paris this week, which I can forgive, but where the hell has Taylor been for the last few months? I sort of want to see how Tana's date turned out.
Oh, and one of my new favorite GG lines: "I'm going to make out in the coat room, don't eat my chicken." Say what you want about Lorelai, she gets all the best lines.
I'm loving "Ultraviolet" like mad, by the way. I'll skip the utter fabulouslessness of Jack Davenport, because of course we all know that he's utterly fabulous. The storylines are fantastic. I've only watched up through the fourth ep (I'm savoring it), and I think it and the third are tied for my favorite. They're wonderfully written, and with the suspense, and the great supporting/guest performances...I can't believe this thing was only around for six episodes. That's a fricken tragedy. I'm going to be very sad when I finish it, at least until I start watching it all over again.
Okay, I lied about the skipping Jack Davenport thing. He's just...guh. Does it for me. Totally and completely. The voice, the floppy hair, the smile, but especially those beautiful emotive eyes. And he's funny, as we can see from the PotC commentary. Guhhhh. Waaaaaant.
Ness and I might, might get a suite next year. She mentioned oh-so-casually that Anya was moving into a suite with this girl from QA and they were looking for two more roomies...
