I took Kirkbike for a ride this evening! It was our very first, not counting me wobbling up and down the parking lot when I first got him out of the car. I got home and the apartment was all stuffy and hot, so I figured the wind in my face would do me good. Plus I was hungry and did not want to move Bones from a prime parking space.
It was just a brief trip around the corner to the Safeway plaza where there is also a Boston Market and a Subway. For some unfathomable reason I chose the former. Jessie and I went there obsessively when they first opened in this area, often after riding, and now I just cannot understand WHY. It is seriously, seriously awful, especially compared to Chicken Out (I ordered cinnamon apples thinking they'd be like my beloved no-frills chunky CO applesauce, but they were covered in sickly-sweet caramel sauce and warm. Ugh). Anyway, now I know better. Aside from the food there were no major incidents. My cropped semi-cargo pants that I generally wear in lieu of shorts in hot weather actually make perfect bike-riding pants: in addition to being light and airy, I can stick cash and keys in the buttoned pockets. I also figured out that I can lock my helmet up if I stick the lock between the helmet part and the funky cage thing that holds it still on your head, so I don't have to carry it around like an idiot (my dad actually said "But they're so dorky!" when I went to buy one. THANKS FOR CARING WHETHER OR NOT MY BRAINS GETS SPLATTERED ALL OVER THE ROAD, DAD). The lock is one of those ones where you can set a word password. God bless fandom for inventing fake words that I will never forget but 99.9% of the population would never guess (no, it's not 'KIRK' - the letters didn't match up).
I used to love riding bikes, and it turns out I still do. I just have to get familiar with it again and not have a panic attack over every little wobble (traffic makes me nervous!). Also I am so out of shape the tiniest bit of sustained incline exhausted me, but we can work on that.
At the moment I am enjoying the lingering endorphins, cooling down and contemplating at least three loads of laundry that I have to do. Pity I forgot about the pollen in all my excitement, though, because my eyes are killing me and my nose is slowly blocking off all entrance and exit.
Still...
YAY KIRKBIKE!
ETA: I totally forgot to remark on the fact that we has a new quarterback. I feel...cautiously optimistic? It's true that we desperately need offensive linemen, but I've always like Donovan McNabb. I'll be sad to see Jason Campbell go, but honestly he deserves a better team, just like McNabb deserves better fans (SUCK IT PHILADELPHIA). It was shitty as hell that he had to hear it from some random reporter, though. Fail, Skins managers.
Everybody's been gabbing about this so much that I keep forgetting other sports have to happen before it gets to be football season again. Ugh, baseball.
