www.thesaurus.com might not be the best you'll ever use, but in a pinch, it's better than nothing.

It's perfectly serviceable, but the problem is that I need to be online to use it, and I've got dial-up at home. So I sign on to check a specific word, get distracted by mail and/or LJ, completely forget my word search and have to sign on again after staring blankly at the _____ where a word should be for five whole minutes. Repeat process 7-9 times...

Yo, Dala--here's a link to the CD of the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary and Thesaurus for $7.99 (after rebate)!! Such a deal! the dictionary is great 'cause it gives the year the word came into use. Also, the CD has a thingy that enables it to install as an MS Word macro, so you can right-click on any word and either look it up or get synonyms for it.
