Attention pirate folk:

There is a PotC tapestry throw at Hot Topic.

The t-shirts are one thing. I am frankly a bit umcomfortable having Johnny Depp and/or Orlando Bloom emblazoned on my chest, because then I would be compelled to stroke my chest all the time and people would look at me askance.

But TO SLEEP UNDER TEH PIRATE BOYZ????

It's that shot of Jack and Will shipboard where Will is looking intently off into the distance and I think Jack has his hand on Will's shoulder and he may be pointing off to wherever Will is looking.

I cannot find it on their fucking website. But I assure you, IT WAS THERE (and the website does have the Legolas throw, which I also saw in-store. So maybe it's just not Internet-ready yet). It was hanging all high up so I couldn't get at it (probably a Good Thing because my first impulse was to grab it and run far far away), but the Legolas one is $45 so it's probably the same.

Dude. Vanessa is going to be SO excited. This will be the room decoration triumph of the year.

So yes, Captain Jack Sparrow and Mister Will Turner, neatly stitched and ready to be spread across Dala's bed...

(maybe I'm the only one really, really inordinately excited about this discovery? ::shuffles feet::)
Music:: "miss you," blink 182
Mood:: OMFG WOW

You're not the only one! I snaffled that thing from Arundel Mills the moment I saw it. I actually have the Legolas too. My husband won't allow them on the bed, but they cuddle together on the couch quite nicely!

Laurel, actually, but I work in Arlington (Crystal City). I'm about 15 min. from Arundel Mills, and I worry that I've gotten faaaar too accustomed to a 24-screen theater next door.

It's amazing that Jack Sparrow went from being a movie character, albiet a very cool movie character, to becoming a cultural icon in less than a year. It's not just his looks or personality, though those are significant. I think what made him so indelible in our conciousness is his insouciance, his freedom, his joy at simply being alive. The society that made him doesn't allow for a great deal of that, nad by wathcing him be free and sail off into the horizon, the viewers are able to vicaroiusly join him.

That is indeed cool. Thanks for the heads-up; I know some people who would love that as a gift.

What scene are you talking about? Can you provide a screencap?

Absolutely. I believe Jack is going to stick with us for awhile, and resonate for generations.

As to the shot on the throw, I actually can't even place it in the movie. It might have been something cut, or shot from another angle, or a publicity still. I could swear it used to be the pirategasm default icon, though.

Johnny has definitely redefined the standard "pirate" character for a new generation (for two or three, I'll wager). I think it'll be a long time before another actor comes along to reinvent the genre in such a way.

On a related note, I am looking forward to "Finding Neverland" for not only itself as a good movie, but also with morbid curiosity as to how he will handle Barrie's pirate. I don't doubt it'll be different from Jack, but I can't help thinking as soon as he shows up onscreen in that do-rag and those high-water boots, much chuckling and snorting will resonate throughout the audience. (God help us if he utters the line "Avast!" at some point.)

I saw that blanket when I was in Virginia visiting my sister. Alas I got a pair of pants and not it for my birthday and I live in Canada so it's improbable that I shall get it in the near future. *woe*. But yay Jack and Will on your bed!

Holy Cats. Pirate stuff at Hot Topic?? And I walked right by the one at the mall on the Vegas strip yesterday without going in. Silly me. I must go check it out: I need a new Spongebob decal thingy for my car, anyway.
