I HAVE FOUND IT!
The TAPE. Not the final tape, but at least it's the second edit.
I hold in my hand the cassette tape I call the Hippieish Mix. For nearly a year it was lost. The final, definitive edition is still lost. But I have this one again, buried in some plastic bag with really old tapes, and I am content. I shall now share the playlist. It went through three different evolutions before I decided it was perfect (this is the second). It's going straight out to the Cheese tomorrow, and will never ever leave the confines of my car ever again.
Side 1
"Tiny Dancer," Elton John (recorded straight off the Madman Across the Water vinyl LP, thankyouverymuch. I love the sound of the needle. Most of the songs on this side were from Dad's records, actually.)
"Kodachrome," Paul Simon
"Leaving On a Jet Plane," Peter Paul and Mary
"American Pie," Don McLean
"Down on the Corner," CCR
"Turn! Turn! Turn!," the Byrds
"Teach Your Children," CSNY
"Maggie May," Rod Stewart
"Me and Bobby McGee," Janis Joplin
"Mr. Bojangles," the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
"I Want You Back," the Jackson 5 (gets cut off; in the original edit I had "Tiny Dancer" again)
Side 2
"Fire and Rain," James Taylor
"San Francisco," Scott McKenzie
"Listen to the Music," the Doobie Brothers
"Slip Away," Clarence Carter
"Big Yellow Taxi," Joni Mitchell
"Let It Be," the Beatles (original version with the non-fucked-up guitar solo)
"White Room," Cream
"Like a Rolling Stone," Bob Dylan
"Go Where You Wanna Go," the Mamas and the Papas
"Ruby Tuesday," the Rolling Stones (became "It's All Over Now" on the final edit)
"If Six Was Nine," Jimi Hendrix (at the time, the only Hendrix song I had access to; became "Castles Made of Sand" in final edit)
"Brown Eyed Girl," Van Morrison
"California," Joni Mitchell (cuts off. I think I had just discovered Blue and that was why I put Joni on twice)
And for good measure, because I used it in an essay last year and I still have it on my hard drive,
Side 1
“Build Me Up Buttercup,” the Foundations
“New York, New York,” Ryan Adams
“Breathless (live),” the Corrs
“Walk This Way,” Aerosmith
“Bohemian Rhapsody,” Queen
“Margaritaville (live),” Jimmy Buffett
“Suite: Judy Blue Eyes,” Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young
“Pride (In the Name of Love) (live),” U2
“Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell
“Piano Man,” Billy Joel
“Two of Us,” Aimee Mann & Michael Penn
Side 2
“Whenever, Wherever,” Shakira
“Born to Run,” Bruce Springsteen
“Trip Through Your Wires,” U2
“We Didn’t Start the Fire,” Billy Joel
“Second Hand News,” Fleetwood Mac
“Bad Moon Rising,” Creedence Clearwater Revival
“Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters,” Elton John
“Crazy Train,” Ozzy Osbourne
“Only the Good Die Young,” Billy Joel
“The Load Out/Stay,” Jackson Browne
Again, whatever I'd just bought/listened to was a heavy influence, thus all the Billy Joel.
I love my mixes.
I promise I will shut up and go to bed now.

I have no money, so I don't buy much music in a year. But this year it seems I've outdone myself (for me, a few CDs is a lot) - the aforementioned Don Henley, Heart (God help me, LOVE them), Maroon 5, the "Bend It Like Beckham" soundtrack ... ahhhh ....
Won't even go INTO Madonna, especially the "American Life" CD with all its acoustic guitar ... guh ... and this is just the tip of modern stuff ...

Gosh, I haven't made mixed tapes in a long time. Could make a mixed CD though...okay, babbling to myself, must stop now.
Anyway yes, the Reccing Ball. Go here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/khohen1/68617.html) to see the rules and yadda yadda such and such. It's the home base.

Alrighty then, I shall go and get myself acquainted with the guidelines.
