::clings:: These people. And it's not the school -- the school is great. Have I mentioned the annual Naked Bike Ride? It's just...these people, they won't go away.

When I'm feeling particularly smothered, I listen to RENT, the Rocky Horror Soundtrack, the Indigo Girls, protest music -- something shocking and/or subversive and/or, well, gay. That helps.

How did you end up with a roommate like that? When [livejournal.com profile] ladymora started at UCSB and was going to stay in a dorm they gave her a questionaire to fill out. They made a real effort to match up kindred spirits.

The Naked Bike Ride sounds cool, though.

Well, the questionaire is mostly questions like "Do you smoke?", "How many hours a week do you spend studying," "What is your average bedtime," etc. Not exactly with the personal beliefs.

Most schools do a good job of matching up, but there are always a few mismatches.

I was one, my freshman year. My roommate and I got along so badly the RA got requests from the people on either side of us to split us up.

They moved nerdy nonsmoking me into a room with a chainsmoking Sorority Girl and, because we were both willing to cut the other some slack (as opposed to my sarcastic, overbearing previous roomie-- who I admit I was somewhat less accomodating to) we got along fine.

Sounds like [livejournal.com profile] the_dala was another case of "the statistics don't match the reality".
