Reason #5609 Why I Love My School: the First Annual Ramadan Film Festival. Tonight they showed "Brothers and Others," a 2002-ish documentary about Muslims, Arabs, and South Asians unfairly detained under the Patriot Act. Very moving, I fully recommend it. Also? Noam Chomsky is my Grandma Libby with a penis. Presumably with a penis, in any case. It's not like I have visual proof.
Reason #5610 Why I Love My School: gingerbread apple cider at the Daily Grind. Come to Dala, you spicy little fruit beverage.
Reason #5611 Why I Love My School: the Dia de los Muertos altar competition. Stopped by Monty to see them on my way home. On the whole they were better last year, but I voted for the crowning achievement: a Mister Rogers altar, complete with a tiny replica of the castle in the land of Make Believe and a fake fishtank and Mister Rogers's sweater and sneakers and playing "Won't You Be My Neighbor?" and OMG HELLO CHILDHOOD. I outgrew Mister Rogers way before I outgrew Sesame Street (heck, doe anybody really outgrow Sesame Street? As long as you keep that Elmo freak away from me), but I loved it so.
Reason #5612 Why I Love My School: being able to walk from one end of campus to the other, at night, by myself, in about fifteen minutes. If immediate physical location was all it took to make people happy, I'd never be sad.
