Reccing Ball, Round 8. Post 'em here; I believe they're due the 11th.

P.S. Can the person who couldn't make it let us know again? Thanks!

Hmm. I just told people they were due the 7th, but the 11th is cool with me too. LOL. Esp. considering I forgot to remind them yesterday when you gave me the post.

Also, could I ask you for a favor? could you edit your post to ask a question for me? Cause more people are likely to read your post then if I edit the homebase, and i'd hate to comment to everyone idividually... Anyway. Blah. Someone backed out of the reccing ball, and I forgot who it was. Could you just say I remember someone backing out, but not who it was, and to please let me know again? Thanks.

Reason Rec'd: It's an AU, wherein something changes Jack's fate, but I don't want to give it away so I won't tell you what. I'll just mention that Jack was never the Captain of the Pearl. Many many many things changed. It's not a pretty story, it's not roses and cake. It's raw, and it's real, and it's absolutely gorgeous.
His skin was the color of tea with milk. His dark hair was tied back and hung long on his back, beads glistening in the moonlight. He was Indian, possibly, but his dreadlocks could only be from Africa. He was spry and slim, and moved with a grace that James associated with dolphins and cats and young women.

Reason Rec'd: Back in the days of POTC, the real days, they had a LOT of diseases to worry about. And without technology, doctors, medicine, knowledge, dentists, lysol in a can, it was very easy for a disease that you could catch today and rid yourself of within a week to actually KILL you back then. This is a story about that. And again, it's not pretty, but it's gorgeous. LOL. You know me, I love raw and real. It's also set back in the days of Bootstrap, so that's a plus for me.
Wishing desperately that he was anywhere else, Bill reluctantly knelt down beside the kid’s body, taking hold of one bony wrist so that he could swing the body up onto his shoulder and carry it on deck. One more fever victim to be sewn into a sailcloth winding sheet and sent to Davy Jones.

Reason Rec'ed: Excellent Sparrington that features two very unusual OC's.

"Because really, is there anything gay mermen can't fix?"

Reason Rec'ed: Shy is a wonderful writer, and this is one of her latest, a tale of a very young Jack Sparrow, future captain of the Black Pearl, but up to no good at present.

Title: The World Turned Upside Down
Author: [livejournal.com profile] viva_gloria
Reason Rec'ed: On the short list of my favorite Sparrington fic ever. Pitch-perfect Norrington POV and brilliant, brilliant interaction with Jack/Mr. Byrd. Then beautifully written and moving smut, then an appropriately bittersweet ending. It also deals with Norrington's state of mind after the battle wtih the cursed pirates, which doesn't get enough attention even in the angstiest Sparrington fics.
"This is the part where I ply you with rum until you're pliable."

There were several responses to that, and Norrington did not know how to say any of them.

"Cat got your tongue?" said Jack, grinning: then, at Norrington's blank, dazed look, "I'll just check."

Title: A Madness Most Discreet
Author: [livejournal.com profile] fabu
Reason Rec'ed: Nobody does Jack/Will/Elizabeth quite like [livejournal.com profile] fabu does Jack/Will/Elizabeth. The latest in her OT3 "Interludes" series, it's smart and funny and sexy and strikes just the right balance between the three of them. Plus the bonus of Gillette at his snarky, bitchy best.

...if Gillette found Jack in her bedchamber, he would surely hang. In response, Jack ran his boot up her calf in a particularly enticing way. Contrary man! "I am. . .oh. . .indisposed this morning, I fear." She kicked his foot away, only to find it replaced with Jack's hot mouth, trailing wet kisses up to her knee. She gripped the windowsill tightly, swallowed hard, and continued, "As to the trellis, a strong wind blew it over. I'm afraid our poor roses are done for."

Title: Brigandage
Author: [livejournal.com profile] ladyjaida
Reason Recced: Off-centre Jack is one of the most delightful things to read -- when written properly. And this is excellent. A long drabble that captures Jack and Bootstrap's friendship in a refreshingly original fashion. Two words: highway men.

However, next time, Jack decided, Bill was going to hold the pistol. It was more intimidating when Bill, far more imposing a personage than the scraggly dark thing Jack was on land, looked you in the eye from along the barrel of a gun and calmly informed you your wallet was now under his jurisdiction. Almost lawful, Bill could be, if law meant fear.

Title: Education
Author: [livejournal.com profile] pir8fancier
Reason Recced: Unique. I love how the author takes little (some one-sentence) glimpses into Will's and Jack's lives. It brings a wonderful texture to them, along with an incredible humanity. A truly enlightening fic.

Will was a piss poor swimmer, notwithstanding the fine job he did of flailing his arms when the Interceptor blew up, managing to reach the Pearl without swallowing too much water; although it was Jack ’s not so humble opinion that it was the sixteen kegs of gunpowder blowing up that propelled Will to within a foot of the Pearl 's hull, not his prowess at swimming.

After one year, Will had learned that it was the times when Jack didn ’t speak when you should really listen.

Author: <lj user="commodoresexual">, who was inspired by <a href="http://www.squidge.org/~praxisters/rum.html">this</a> picture by the Theban Band.
Reason Rec'd: Wren has a magnificent way of taking the characters and putting them into a situation that seems absolutely inconceivable and silly, but she can make the situations and the characters in them <i>feel real</i>. But the sillyness is not just about the fun and the schmoop, but has that tinge of ache and sadness that makes you want to read it again and again. <blockquote>Jack sang, flopping the wig atop his scarf-topped head. "Lookit meeeeee. I'm the Commodore. Doot, doot doot. Aren't I fancy? Don't I look a delic-ious lookin' creame puff?"</blockquote>

Author: <lj user="captsparrow4evr">
Reason Rec'd: There are so many reasons why I love this fic. Jack's drunken ramblings, Will & Norrington & Groves's cunning plans, sex, little piratey (in-)jokes... The best part is the nude confrontation scene in the last part of the story. And the Rum is Green for a Reason. An absolute delight to read. <blockquote>Jack glanced at the bottle and smiled then looked back at him. "Ye know, I had the craziest dream t'other night. Dreamt I got me nose cut off and sewed back on. Kep' runnin' around thinkin' it was gonna fall off when I sneezed."</blockquote>

Reacson Rec'd:Because dove (hija_paloma) + Crow = Super hot! What happend when Commodore Norrington spies a familliar figure in Port Royal and follows him down a dark alley? Will there be wall sex? Or will they get a room? Read and find out!

Title: A Plan Well-Laid
Authors: [livejournal.com profile] hija_paloma and Webcrowmancer
Reason Rec'd: Because once just wasn't enough. Hell, twice wasn't either. Anyone know if we can lure Crow back into these waters? I hope all is going well for her out there in RL, but at least she left us all her treasure to enjoy. Dove, any chance you would write more of this on your own? This story picks up two months later with Jack sneaking into the bedroom where Norrington lay, sleeping, moonlit, naked, and oh, if that wasn't the prettiest sight Jack had ever seen.
