Gacked from a bunch of people.

This is the problem with LJ: We all think we are so close, and we know nothing about each other. I'm going to rectify it. I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about.
Music:: the o.c. I LOVE YOU ADAM BRODY
Mood:: 'excited' excited

Okay, we Know that (well I'm not certain love is a strong enough word, but we'll go with it for now *g*) love U2. Why? What turned you on to them? What keeps you listening? Has it changed your life in anyway? Do you think I'm crazy for declaring Bono/Edge my OTMusicP?

I have the three question meme going. ask me something?

Okay. This is kind of a long story, so grab something munchy.

I was aware of U2 as a child, because who could miss "With Or Without You" and "Pride (In the Name of Love)"? But it wasn't until ATYCLB came out that I was really aware of them as a contemporary band. I bought it, fell in love with it, and realized my dad had a copy of The Joshua Tree. That was the beginning. It got worse when I bought Achtung Baby a few weeks later -- I remember it was because they were using "One" in the commercials for that Nicolas Cage "It's a Wonderful Life" ripoff. At that point, I pretty much accepted that, though my taste in music is pretty extensive, I was never going to love another band or artist as completely as I loved U2.

As to the why...I see music as being divided into three factors that pleaseth me: the lyrics, the vocals, and the instruments. Now there are artists that have these in unequal proportions -- no one's ever going to pretend Bob Dylan can sing, Jimi and the Experience weren't terribly memorable wordsmiths, Eva Cassidy did nothing but covers with very simple arrangements. The easiest explanation I can give for why I love U2 so much is that they hit me in each one of those places. A good half of Bono's deliveries send chills down my spine. The guitarwork on "All I Want Is You" is some of the most stunning I've ever heard. They've penned some lyrics -- "The Wanderer," "Until the End of the World," "Running to Stand Still" -- that I feel can stand up beside the very best.

At the same time, it's more than that. U2 has heart. I understand why people get annoyed with Bono for using his music as a platform for his politics, but I don't agree -- it inspires me, and I would just as gladly listen to the man talk as sing. There's also a incredible synthesis throughout their career; I think I read somewhere that they're the only band that's been together that long without any lineup changes, or at least one of them. Even when they take their music in weird and incomprehensible directions (some of Pop, all the remixes on the second greatest hits disc), they do it together. And they're self-aware -- they've taken that santimonius image and messed it around, stomped on it, refused to be put on a pedestal or forced into a box. And I feel like they'll keep evolving, keep findhing things to say, without ever losing sight of who they are. I can listen to Boy or I can listen to Zooropa, and I'm still listening to the same four guys who went to school together in Ireland and begged their parents for cash to cut a record deal.

I guess that counts as life-changing. Also, this is definitely too long to fit in one comment box.

*whisper* I totally used to poke around on ff.net for Bono/Edge fics. I could only read them for ten minutes or so before I'd get squicked and run away (because Bono and Ali are so freaking cool, mostly).

ask me something?

Well, 'tis only fair :) Will go do. I have trouble thinking of questions, though, so they'll probably be stupid.

What is the arrangement of siblings and parents in your immediate family?

Mom, dad, and me. Classic only child; I'm introverted and I never really learned to share properly, although I did spend most of my time when I was small with slightly older cousins, so that's kind of like having siblings.

Only really not, I know :) I'm always saying I want to marry into a big family. My best friend, who has two younger brothers and an older sister, immediately glared and said, "You can't have Tommy. OR Joey."

What is your major? Wait... I think I know that. Is it history?
if so, I guess I need another question.
How old are you?

It's English, actually, though I talk about history all the time because I've gotten really interested in it. My school doesn't really do minors, but I will probably end up with a concentration in history.

Nineteen. Twenty in March.

How many people in LJ do you know "live"? (I hope you know what I mean...)
Oh, and how many time a day do you spend writing fanfiction? And what is your favourite pairing to write/to read about?

Two of them are friends from real life; of the rest, I've only met [Unknown site tag] in person.

It depends; usually I write in big chunks. So there are days when I don't write anything and days when I write for hours straight.

I'm seriously very flexible. I can be convinced of anything if the writing's good enough.

Season Three, because of Faith and the Mayor, who is one of my favorite villains of all time.

I go to St. Mary's College of Maryland, which is down at the buttcrack of the Chesapeake Bay.

Dammit. I can't choose! I love pie! Last year I kept a running tally of how much money I spent on little vending machine Hostess Pies.

Cherry, I guess, when it comes right down to it. But seriously, I will take any kind of pie over pretty much any other dessert.

Middle: Lorraine, a family name on my dad's side. First name: Courtney.

Have been in love, but only with a horse. And had my heart geniunely broken when I lost her. As for the two-legged race...not so far.
