Woke up all ass-early today to pill the cat. Bleah, Snake has the most awful breath. It was sort of like The Cat Who Came For Christmas, except that Snake is a mite better behaved than Polar Bear. He still gave me a scratch on my wrist though. Best thing about the whole situation: I am the cat-wrapped-up-in-a-towel-holder, not the actual stuffing-the-pill-down-his-throat-er, so he doesn't stay mad at me for long.

Then, in keeping with holiday tradition, I got into a fight with my mother. Was bad. Do not feel like going into the details. I was going to go for a walk to cool off, but for some reason my right ankle is killing me, so I went for a drive instead. Didn't know where I wanted to go, but I wanted breakfast. I decided to go to McDonald's. In Poolesville. Why? Because it's a nice leisurely drive. I took my Discman and the mini-speakers (need a CD/tape deck adapter VERY badly), listened to my U2 ballad mix on the way out. I wasn't actually sure of the way to McDonald's, so I guessed: I went straight on Seneca instead of turning left at the Food Lion, as you do when going to the barn. This turned out to be the wrong way, but no matter; I drove about twenty miles down, just chilling and listening to U2. I got to see the castle for the first time in years! Gahhh, it's still as beautiful as ever -- but I did miss my favorite brownstone. Eventually I got past Poolesville and Barnestown and found myself in Bealsville -- way the fuck out there. So I turned around and drove back, went the way to the barn, but kept straight down Partnership instead of taking Sugarland, which I thought was the way. And indeed, it was. I passed Larissa's house. I really wish they weren't in West Virginia, I wanted to take the kids to see fireworks tonight. Ah well. Anyway, I purchased my well-balanced breakfast of a hash brown and lemon pie entirely in quarters and journeyed home again, no detours this time. It was a nice drive. It took me a good hour and a half.

Oh yeah -- Happy 4th! Yay America, freedom, the flag, the Constitution, hot dogs, apple pie, fireworks, etc.!
