the_dala at 08:59pm on 03/01/2005Tearing through one of my Christmas books, Trickster's Queen by my beloved Tamora Pierce (finally FINALLY, although I'm not sorry I didn't buy it when it came out in September, because I'm happy with this opportunity to savor it). And I just had to take a moment to spoiler-protect
SQUEEEE NAWAT CAME HOME OMG. I squeaked and clapped my hands and cried just a little. And then look, untying of sashes and the FLOOR and lo, Ms. Pierce has officially brought sex back to Tortall. Tasteful fade-to-black-and-back sex, of course, just as with Alanna. And man, I missed my favorite girls getting some proper love. Although I've come to terms with the Daine/Numair relationship, I would have been severely squicked by any sex written into the Immortals, because I'm fairly certain sher was only sixteen in the last one. Even the discussion of canoodling (Miss Veralidaine Sarrasri's own words) put me off a little. And Kel...I wouldn't have been opposed to Kel-sex, I guess, but it didn't seem to fit into the focus of her story.
Aly, now, Aly can have ALL the sex she wants with her lovely crow-man. And I don't even like Nawat that much. Well, I like him, but he's no George. Nobody is George. Which, considering he happens to be the father of the heroine in question, is probably A Good Thing.
Other than TEH SEX YAY, I'm enjoying the book immensely. It's extremely well-paced -- the longer format really works for Tamora. Sarai's elopement came out of nowhere -- I knew she wasn't going to end up taking the throne, but I figured she'd get nobly killed off somehow. And yet running off with the nice young Carthaki is exactly Sarai.
I cried when Elsren died. Hard. Well, him and the poor little king, and his guardsman (I cannot remember these Kyprin names to save my life) carrying his body...*whimper*
Dove is awesome. Dove can be my queen any day of the week.
Back to the reading, with a final ALY + NAWAT 4EVA.
