Tearing through one of my Christmas books, Trickster's Queen by my beloved Tamora Pierce (finally FINALLY, although I'm not sorry I didn't buy it when it came out in September, because I'm happy with this opportunity to savor it). And I just had to take a moment to spoiler-protect
SQUEEEE NAWAT CAME HOME OMG. I squeaked and clapped my hands and cried just a little. And then look, untying of sashes and the FLOOR and lo, Ms. Pierce has officially brought sex back to Tortall. Tasteful fade-to-black-and-back sex, of course, just as with Alanna. And man, I missed my favorite girls getting some proper love. Although I've come to terms with the Daine/Numair relationship, I would have been severely squicked by any sex written into the Immortals, because I'm fairly certain sher was only sixteen in the last one. Even the discussion of canoodling (Miss Veralidaine Sarrasri's own words) put me off a little. And Kel...I wouldn't have been opposed to Kel-sex, I guess, but it didn't seem to fit into the focus of her story.
Aly, now, Aly can have ALL the sex she wants with her lovely crow-man. And I don't even like Nawat that much. Well, I like him, but he's no George. Nobody is George. Which, considering he happens to be the father of the heroine in question, is probably A Good Thing.
Other than TEH SEX YAY, I'm enjoying the book immensely. It's extremely well-paced -- the longer format really works for Tamora. Sarai's elopement came out of nowhere -- I knew she wasn't going to end up taking the throne, but I figured she'd get nobly killed off somehow. And yet running off with the nice young Carthaki is exactly Sarai.
I cried when Elsren died. Hard. Well, him and the poor little king, and his guardsman (I cannot remember these Kyprin names to save my life) carrying his body...*whimper*
Dove is awesome. Dove can be my queen any day of the week.
Back to the reading, with a final ALY + NAWAT 4EVA.

Also:
Well, I like him, but he's no George. Nobody is George.
TRUE THAT.
I sobbed and wept when Elsren died. And Dunevon. And I cried a little for Taybur Sibigat, too. And WAH OCHOBU. AND ULASIM. AND JUNAI. And everyone else.
It was just this really weepy book, you know?
I READ THE FIRST BOOK AND I SO TOTALLY KNEW DOVE WAS GONNA BE QUEEN. TOTALLY TOTALLY KNEW IT. Especially when she found a way so the bandits would be sword to Mequen and the Balitangs.
Isn't there going to be a third one, Trickster's Bet, or something? I read it somewhere but I'm not sure if it's true or not.

I admit, I didn't catch on to Dove's fate that early on, but I was sure of it early on in TQ.
Thought she had handled this one in just two, but I dunno. I think I've got the official site bookmarked somewhere, will have to check it out.
YAY RABID TAMORA PIECE FANGIRLHOOD.

I MET HER YOU KNOW I SPENT FOUR HOURS IN A LINE AT CHAPTER'S.
I want to know more about Taybur Sibigat, he was such a cool person. I think if Aly weren't with Nawat she'd be with him. Because, dude.
I have much Taybur love. :D

And yes, Elsren... *weeps* I really liked Taybur, and I would have liked to see more of him. Sarai's running off was great. And the darklings! I love the darklings so very much.
And yay Aly + Nawat!

I'm so excited for EK. Tamora Pierce for the first time is like WHOA. Especially now, when there are a plethora of books to choose from, as opposed to me finding the first Song of the Lioness book in the back of the library and then not being able to find the rest for months. The new hardbound editions are SO DAMN PRETTY and I WANT them.
/Tamora Pierce geekiness before I really make a fool of myself.

DUDE. You write Smut that I LIEK READ and stuff.
But I read -- oh, wait.
:D heh.

You pretty much said everything I was feeling when I read the book. Nawat=teh HAWT, Aly/Nawat tasteful-fading-sex=AWESOME, Nawat!=George, and DOVE RULES.
*wibbles* I wouldn't have minded some post-Lioness, pre-Immortals George/Alanna (and everyone else) adventure books. Maybe she'll write them someday? One can never have enough George.

I would love some fill-in-the-blank stuff set in the earlier days. Strangely enough, I've never felt the need to seek out Tortall fic. The idea makes me a little uncomfortable.
