Oscar noms: list.

I'm satisfied with most of the acting nominations and the best picture/screenplay/directing categories.

But can somebody please explain to me how "Farenheit 9/11" did not merit an invitation a nomination in the Best Documentary category?

Also, I hate William Godwin. H A T E.

Apparently one cannot go for both Best Documentary and Best Picture. Michael Moore held his film out of the BD running in order to qualify for BP. (Hey, at least "The Passion of the Christ" didn't get a nomination for BP, either. Which is making Vanessa cry, I'm sure.)

I read "Fahrenheit 9/11" was published before the "dead line" so to speak. Moore wanted to show it before the elections, but the nominees are chosen among the movies published afterwards.

I don't know if that's true, but that's what I read.

I'll have to say that I don't think Fahrenheit 9/11 would be suitable as best documentary. Because really, it is *far* too not-objective for what I would consider a good *documentary*. The niveau in which Moore got some of his hits in was rather low.

Don't misunderstand me, I watched the movie, I didn't like Bush and his politics before it, even less after it, but as a whole, I couldn't say I thought it was a good documentary. But then, I'm weird. And European.

I can see that point of view, and I actually would have preffered it in the Best Picture category -- but not among this crop of movies, because they all deserve their spots.

Moore didn't submit it so it could be shown on television during the campaign season. I think.

Hmm, I'm not really sure why (this is just speculation), but perhaps the academy didn't want any controversy? Perhaps that's why The Passion didn't get many nods as well. I for one am exstatic about Johnny's nomination! EEP! :-D

I prefer to think "The Passion" didn't get many nods because it was a piece of crap, but I think you have a point too :) And YAY Johnny. Seems the Academy has learned how to spell R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

I'm satisfied with the acting etc. noms, but I emphatically do not want DiCaprio to win. I've only had the chance to see his performance and Depp's, and Depp is infinitely superior. I have a hunch it'll go to Foxx though.

I did think DiCaprio was great in "The Aviator," and it's definitely the role the Academy would favor over Johnny's more subtle but equally compelling work. But you're right, Foxx has pretty much got this in the bag. I want him to win just because his speech at the Globes was so endearing :)
