Question of the day:

Did I subconsciously forget my dad's birthday because I don't want to admit he's getting older?

I didn't forget precisely. It's just that I gave him his present -- a Constellation in a bottle and a bosun's whistle -- during spring break, thinking I wouldn't be home again for awhile. But I didn't send an e-card like I normally do. I just...I don't want to think about it, I don't want to deal with it, I don't.

When I was driving home with my radio broken, I discovered that I can sing every single word of Blue. I'm not normally good with spontaneous recall like that -- I can sing along with songs when they're playing, but I have trouble remembering the lyrics without the context of the music.

Blue, though...Blue lives in my head. And strangely enough, despite being completely tonedeaf, if I can sing anything passably, it's Joni Mitchell. I mean, I didn't sound good, but I didn't sound awful either. My voice kind of suited hers.

It's good to know things like that.
Music:: "a case of you," joni
Mood:: 'uncomfortable' uncomfortable

Have you heard Sarah McLachlan's version of "Blue?"
If it makes you feel any better about avoiding your dad's bday, I forgot my best friend's bday for nearly 2 months. She got her September bday gifts when she got her Christmas gifts (which were 2 months late). If you don't mind my asking, how old is your dad?

No, but it must be nice. My dad's 58 this year.

I *may* be able to get Sarah's version of "Blue" to you via e-mail if you want it. 58 is nothing! My best friend's dad is in his early 70s and she's 24.

That's a comfort :) Most of my friends' parents are younger than mine.

Yeah, I know what you mean. My parents are in their early 50s and the parents of one of my good friends from high school (she's nearly 2 years younger than me)are nearly 10 years younger than my parents. That's messed up!
OK, I'm going to try e-mailing you the song, but no promises. Let me know if it work. my e-mail is entertainmentchicka@yahoo.com

yeah, it is sad thinking about how our parents are getting older, both my dads are 50 now, and my mom... *sniff* you know technically they are not getting older because they will always be the same years older than us, but yeah it is a really sad subject, okay, i am done thinking about it.
