Premise:

Jack and James are an item. Will and Elizabeth are an item.

Either Jack and Will run off together, leaving James and Elizabeth to pick up the pieces with each other or Elizabeth and James choose to be together, leaving Jack and Will as the pissed-off and jilted ones.

Or, as an alternative, you could write any Balian introspective piece. I haven't read any in a while, and I do love me some Balian of Ibelin.

Did his wife die in childbirth? That was my assumption. Lately I've found myself wondering if maybe they had a small child or a baby, and it died, which sent her into her tailspin (possible, too, that she found herself alone in her grief because Balian took on more work to escape his, and didn't give her sufficient attention, or at least let her know HE was hurting, too).
