Am doing much better today, thank goodness.
A completely timely Happy birthday to
hija_paloma, and a slightly belated one to
shrieking_ell. Birthday hugs and kisses and gropes and pie and puppy-faces to you both.
Today I finished To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis. It took me a month to get through it simply because I didn't want to finish. But I got to the bit near the end with Verity gone missing and I could no longer delay the inevitable. Good god, it was fabulous. I loved it as much as DB and Passages, although it didn't reduce me to emotional wreckage in the same way, which is probably a Good Thing. I have also, to my surprise, managed to obtain most of her other books in the last week. On Saturday Mom and I went to White Flint, where there is a huge, beautifulHeaven Borders. It being better stocked than the average, I figued I'd better grab Bellweather and Remake while I could find them. And then today, I went on a jaunt to the Alcove and found Lincoln's Dreams and Fire Watch. So SQUEEEE on that account. I'll probably save them for school because they're paperback and therefore lightweight. Must, must, must get to Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell before the end of the summer. I also found a copy of The Da Vinci Code, so I'll finally succumb to the hype, and Tailchaser's Song by Tad Williams because someone recommended it to me years ago and hey, kitties. Oh, and nonfiction investigation on Pope Joan, which looked too interesting to pass up.
I also discovered a new motivation factor for exercising: Taye Diggs doing crunches five feet to my left. Or at least some guy who looked exactly like Taye Diggs. I could crunch that, let me tell ya.
Now, to get some more request ficlets done. Because, not that I'm not enjoying them on their own merit, the whole point of the exercise is to get juiced up enough to finish the Brothers in Arms series. Among other projects. And gahhhh! The polyficathon! I'm scampering off to sign up for it as we speak. Uh, type. Or I type and you read. Whatever.
