I just killed two thousand people.
Well, history killed two thousand people, technically speaking, but then I did it in fic.

I sat at my computer from 10:30 to 4:00 today. I maybe got up for snacks and bathroom breaks, but still. Whew. I'd stay here all night if I didn't have to go to work.

The first place I read of it was in The Ocean Almanac by Robert Hendrickson, which is a huge collection of all kinds of nautical stuff, but I have seen it other place (with some modifications of course *g*).
Anyways, basically during the great earthquake a British Naval ship/sloop (depending on who you read) was washed out of it's drydock, where it had been sent for a complete refit as it was quite an old vessal (one said it was about to be sent of to the breakers yard). As it was pulled over the island people grabbed on to trailing lines, and frankly whatever they could, and clambered aboard. The waters took them completely over Port Royal.
It is said that, as the waters of the tsunami receded, the old vessal sank . No whether it took any of the poor souls with it...
I about died when I first heard that story.
and shhhhh the swan is the ship burning at the beginning of a drink at the crossroads ;-)
