Just to prove that I can shut up about school for at least one entry: FIREFLY. OMGOMGOMGOMG. I've fallen so hard. I used to have a girlcrush on Jewel Staite and Simon, Inara, and Zoe are all gorgeous and Alan Tudyk has ARMS OF SEX and it's funny and...MAL. Mal is like if you took Han Solo, Indiana Jones, and a little bit of Brian Kinney, threw them all against the wall, scooped up what drizzled down and made a person out of it. It's crazy pirate cowboy Old West nonsense IN SPACE, and I love it.

Also, any future with horses in it is one I want to live in.

Yes, I do realize I am approximately eighty-four thousand years late to the party. Let it go. I've only watched the first disc, but I'm shuttling the others up the Netflix queue immediately. Is it too early to beg for fic recs?

Oh! I almost forgot! Why the HELL does everybody randomly speak Chinese? It's an interesting storytelling device, because in every case you can guess at the meaning from context without actually understanding it. But dude, WTF?

Yay you for discovering the wonder that is Firefly. :) Translations for the Chinese spoken on the series can be found: here. Careful. You'll find yourself swearing in pinjin after a few more eps. ;-)

Joss said that in the Firefly 'verse, the dominant superpowers had become America and China. I think he said he wanted a world where the poorest person around would still speak fluent Chinese. Something like that.
