This story is so haunting. It was one of the first ones I saved to my "favorites."
His skin feels hot and the soles of his feet itch and he wants to hurl his body into the cold sea. The detail about the soles of his feet sounds so right. There are so many lines like that which ring true and paint such a vivid picture; I can't name them all. Everything about it is horribly perfect. I don't know why, but for some reason the fact that the Pearl was sunk just pushes me over the edge - like that brings it into sharp relief that not only is Jack gone, but possibly so is everyone who would remember him. :(
