Squeeeeee. I felt I needed a raincoat, all things considered, so I scoured the mall until I finally found the perfect coat at Burlington (I am so incredibly, indescribably difficult to please when it comes to things like this. I have been searching for a new purse for three years). It's a peacoat, powder-blue, Calvin Klein, with a belt and a removable wool lining. The original price was 90$, but it was marked down to $39.99, I'm assuming because it was the only one left in the store -- and it just happened to fit me perfectly. I RULE.

Dad bought me a plug adapter after talking to various people who actually leave the country. I need it for charging both Grace O'Malley and the digital camera, which I have named Giles, but the ones they sold at Bed Bath and Beyond weren't for battery charagers. This one, he says, is appropriate to the voltage on both iPod and camera, and it does say on the back that it can be used with "digital cameras and camcorders, laptops, PDAs," as well as stuff like hair dryers. Daddy swears it won't fry Grace O'Malley. I am suspicious, and will be testing it first on Giles, who is newer and far less dear to my heart.

I don't care how good the American Café's potato cheese soup is, today was officially my last meal. The last three times I've been there, I have been seated near one or more wet rags used to wipe up tables, which have been left lying on a random surface, and which stink to high heaven. It's not just a faint whiff -- you can really smell it. That's freaking rude, not to mention unsanitary. Also, they always forget to bring me a spoon with my soup. Screw you, American Café!

I haven't begun packing so much as I have laid out the luggage for serious contemplation. Also, I came up with a brilliant plan of stuffing socks and underwear inside my shoes (not the ones I'm wearing, obviously), and I picked the books that will travel with me -- The Da Vinci Code (at last; I mean to read it on the plane if I can't sleep), To Rule the Waves, H.M.S. Surprise, Dragonfly in Amber, The Charioteer, and The Drifters. The first two are hardcover, but that simply can't be helped. I will weigh every piece of luggage carefully before I leave the house.

Also called Bank of America so that they won't put a stop on my card when they see it's being used overseas. They said I could make withdrawals at Barclays banks and escape being charged a fee. I Googled it and found ten branches in Oxford, so that takes a weight off my mind.

Penultimate night at home. We're going out to dinner. I wanted Indian, but Mom whinged until I relented. I have the feeling she's going to talk me into Mi Rancho. Ah well. I like me some good Mexican.

If it's any comfort, nothing of mine (chargers for digital cameras, phones, my MP3 player, or my laptop power cable) has ever had any problems when being used with a plug adaptor. I've used adaptors both on the Continent and in the States.

Oxford has ten Barclays branches? I never knew. There's a big branch on Cornmarket, the main shopping street in the centre, that I can recall. And ATMs dotted around the place.

Aye, and that's just a block from where I will be living. I found it on my wee map :)
