First things first:
GAHHHHHH IT IS SO BLOODY HOT AND SUN AND HUMID AND SWEAT AND KILL ME NOW.
New FTF, three hours later:
MMMMM COOKOUT HOT DOGS SOUR CREAM AND CHIVES RUFFLES
FTF as it would have been about one hour ago:
OMIGOD OMFG I JUST BOUGHT A PLANE TICKET TO FLORIDA MY PARENTS ARE GONNA KILL ME WTF PIRATES
Okay, I think I can be rational about all of the above now.
This place, this thing that I am doing? Is fucking cool. We're working on the Vanswergingen site (I will learn to spell it at some point this summer) -- not where they've already excavated his ordinary, which was the only place in town you needed a reservation for (and now I will officially think of Vanswerengin as Donald Trump), but an area across the path where they think he may have built another building. Yeah, did I mention how the only 17th century documentation about the layout of the city is a map with a real big house drawn on Church Point? But the important thing about the site is -- it is ALMOST in the shade. The trailer is in the shade. The holes, they are in the sun, but they are right next to the shade-giving trees, so this is still considered a victory.
We don't actually get to dig for a week or so; it's all lectures and artifact info so we don't fuck up royally on the site. Seriously though, I could not have picked a better school in all the country. I love this place. I was charmed by Oxford, but I am in love with SMC.
That said? I don't know how the hell I'm going to get through a Mid-Atlantic summer. We didn't even do anything but walk around Historic today and every piece of clothing was stuck like fangirl on pirate. Sigh. Hydrate, Dala, hydrate hydrate hydrate. I do like my roommate, though. She brought a bunch of good stuff and she enjoys things like cursing and watching TV and not going to church. I like the folks running the school, too. And Dr. Sullivan gave us a little introduction and remembered me. Such an awesome, perfectly nice man.
I asked Dr. Riordan if it would be all right to miss a few days of fieldwork, and he said that was fine as long as I let him know beforehand. So, I am going to SitS'06. I held my breath during the whole ticket-buying process (and I should've done it a few hours earlier because the later flight I really wanted was full -- this one is at 7:45, which means I'll have to leave early that Thursday to make it to BWI during rush hour. 8:40 would have been so much safer...) but there it is, all taken out of my debit account and everything. Which, if my parents open the bank statement (which they have the right to, as it's jointly in my dad's name and gets mailed to their house), they will see. They might. They might not. Even if they don't, something might get sent to the house or the airline or Disney might call, since it's the billing address. Well, I'll worry about that when the time comes. I think 'at least I'm not spending it on drugs; aren't pirates better than drugs?' is a solid defense.
So, yay! Pirate premiere! Pirate ride! Pirate people! ::frolics::
I should just plow right back into the BiA fic, or try to work something out with the J/W almost-smut I started in England. I like this typing in my lap thing, Even if I can't sit up straight on the bottom bunk.
