I'll cut this just in case, though it's not very spoilery: Did anybody notice when exactly Will gets his sexy coat? It's after he's on the Pearl, but is it before he and Jack talk about Davy Jones or after? (You'd think after seeing it THREE TIMES, I'd remember...)

And yes, this is for a fic -- why do you ask? :)

If memory serves me right, Will is wearing the sexy coat when he's waving the flaming sword at Davy's crew, which means he was wearing it when he left the Pearl. He wasn't wearing it while he was yummily tied to the spit to be cooked, nor was he wearing it once they got on board the Pearl after escaping the island with his wet shirt clinging to his chest, and it's very shortly after that that Jack asks him what he knows about Davy Jones, and Will's wearing the coat when they go to see Tia Dalma and she gets to run her hands on that sexy face...

Um, sorry, where were we? Oh yeah - if memory serves me correctly, Will gets the coat after they escape from the cannibals, because he's wearing it when he faces off with Davy's crew with the flaming sword.

And I wasn't drooling here at work over Will. Nope, nope, nope, can't prove a thing... :)

Now as to how he gets the coat, who know? I'm thinking maybe it's part of the spoils of the last time the Pearl did any "proper pirating", or perhaps it belonged to a crew member who was lost on the island, or maybe it's one that Jack had, but for whatever reason hasn't worn/doesn't wear anymore.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go shoot some sexy leather coat wearing plot bunnies...

I like the idea it was Jack's. Don't really know why, except while the coat *does* technically fit Will, it's a tad bit small on him - which would make sense if it were Jack's at some point.

I've done some more checking of pictures online, because last night I realized that Will is wearing a coat when he tells Elizabeth that he's gone after Jack, and was hit with the fact that I had unconsciously thought it was the same coat as the sexy leather coat. From the pictures I've looked at online, they do not appear to be the same coat - specifically I've looked at a picture where you can see Will kneeling in front of Elizabeth in the gaol, and while the coat seems to have the same color as the sexy leather one, it does not have the shine of the sexy coat in that picture, and it also doesn't appear to be leather itself. I'll have to really pay attention to that the next time I see the movie, which will hopefully be this weekend.

Because if it is the same coat, then there's a continuity error in the movie, since Will is certainly not wearing a coat when he leaves the shrimper's boat and heads to the cannibal island, nor is he carrying one anywhere on his nicely wet personage. But my muses decided to come up with ways to get around that if it is the same coat, and the muses that have come up with a Gibbs fic began to do battle with the leather coat bunnies, while the Norrington gang stood off to the side to wait for an opportune moment. But I made myself go to bed at that point, so all the muses and bunnies were forced to take a time out.

Hmm, wrecking my memory, but I am fairly certain we first see him wearing it on his hunt for Jack, so right after Port Royal. He maybe obtains it during his journeys.
