the Dalaverse

I've never done NaNoWriMo, and I don't see myself doing it in the near future; I haven't worked on my original fiction, namely the young adult fantasy novel that's been on various burners since the sixth grade, in years. Right now I'm comfortable and satisfied and suitably challenged by fanfic. So: I'm not doing NaNoWriMo this year.

However, I'm making up a fake NaNoWriMo of my own. No word goal, no counter, but I'm going to use the idea of hundreds/thousands/however many people participate, sitting through gritting their teeth at their computers, to motivate me. My goal is to finish the earthquake fic.* If it takes longer than November, that's okay, but I will write something every day this month, and I'll be posting about my progress at irregular intervals (and then asking for betas, because it's going to need it.

Today, for example, I haven't done much, but I am slowly working my way through the scene I've been stuck on all these months, which difficulty lies in the fact that it's heavily populated with OCs. I also changed an upcoming plot point so that it makes more sense and added a line of dialogue to a future unwritten scene. I feel good about this.





*In case you weren't around a year and a half ago, I wrote a paper for a class on the huge earthquake that leveled Port Royal in 1692, and was inspired to write a great big epic fic about it. It currently stands at 9893 words, plus several pages of notes and brainstorming.
