It should not be 71 degrees in January. It simply should not be. It's screwing up my internal clock. I like cold weather, dammit! I look forward to winter! I don't care how technically beautiful the weather is right now -- I'll be perfectly eager for 71 degrees in April, but in January I want coats and sweaters and boots and puffs of breath and frost and snow and white skies! God!
Since I got paid yesterday and couldn't rest without spending money (I tried using my iTunes gift certificate, but my instincts knew my brain was faking them out), I went to Borders today. Originally I was planning to get The Devil Wears Prada, which is a nice cheap paperback -- resist the new Philippa Gregory! Resist! However, I reasoned that since I was actually paying full price for a book for once, I might as well get the one that is least likely to be found at the Alcove, which was Terrier. Well, I suppose the Gregory would be too, but I just cannot bring myself to spend twenty-five dollars. Can't do it. It'll be out in paperback soon, or at the library. But Tamora Pierce is another story entirely, especially since I waited weeks for Christmas and then completely forgot to ask for it.
New Tortall! Or rather, old Tortall. I tell you what, there's no better beginning to a book than wee!George. I was sitting in the car thinking about a Top Ten Tamora Pierce Characters list, and had to give the idea up entirely because -- ten? I could maybe narrow it down to fifty, as opposed to the entire cast of characters in each series, but not ten. Tamora is too bloody good for ten. There's not one author out there who makes me as excited with the release of a new book. Neil Gaiman comes closest, and I guess HP too, but...Tortall, y'all. If she's still writing when I'm forty, I will still be buying her books. And paying full price if I must.( Although I still remember that time I found a beautiful, spotless copy of Trickster's Choice at the Alcove, I haven't seen a single Tamora since. Too risky to gamble on that one.)
::thinks up subject line:: Oh, Rikash. You really might be top ten material. Maybe I could do a non-heroines-and-their-lovers top ten?
1. Rikash
2. Buri
3. Chenaol
4. Cloud
5. Myles
6. Onua
7. Owen
8. Taybur
9. omg DOVE
10. Winnamine
11. the badger
12. Thayet
13. Liam
14. Faithful!
...Apparently not. And that doesn't even include the villains, because Roger.

The Devil Wears Prada was a fun read, better than the film, IMO.

Oh, and it's starting to get cold here! Then again, with the messed up weather, I'm calling 45 cold. LOL

I loved Terrier--bought it in an airport bookstore during a layover and didn't put it down again until my flight landed. And wee!George is just about the best thing ever.

Alanna is still my favourite.
And I'm so with you on Roger. Oh Roger. ♥.
