Just watched "The Illusionist," and can I just say -- more movies about turn-of-the-century magicians, please! At least if they're all as deftly-written and well-acted as this and "The Prestige." I don't think I prefer one over the other, except that I liked the ending of "The Illusionist" a bit more. Especially loved -- LOVED -- that Sophie was so instrumental in her own escape/rescue plan-thing. She's the kind of character that hits my literary kinks like whoa. Also my kink-kinks, with all the horse-back riding and the breeches-wearing at the end. I actually loved Jessica Biel in this, and have finally decided to let Mary Camden go. Edward Norton and his beautiful light voice are always good, and Paul Giamatti rocks the house. Maybe not as much as Michael Caine -- that and Hugh Jackman shirtless represent "The Prestige"'s edge over the competition.

But yeah. It was very good, and both the cinematography and the score were gorgeous. Yay movies!

I missed "The Illusionist." I need to get the DVD. Everyone I know who saw it really liked it. I hear that the costumes and sets were gorgeous.
