OMG. So I actually didn't think "Bruce Almighty" was that funny, but the sequel looks nothing short of awesome. Morgan Freeman is back as God -- and really, who the hell would make a better God? Except James Earl Jones...I really need to find my copy of Lamb... Steve Carell as a modern-day Noah, Lauren Graham as his wife, and I think I saw Ed Helms in the trailer somewhere ::IMDBs it:: Yep, he's there. I just wish Colbert could drop in to give us a little Even/Stevphen.
I'm sure there's a sappy inspirational message buried in it, but dude, Morgan Freeman and Steve Carell, so I don't even care. Is it weird that I get excited when I think about how Steve Carell's career is going, and how awesome he's going to be for the next couple decades? He really is just an extraordinary, versatile comedian. I mean, to inevitably compare him to Ricky Gervais because of "The Office"s -- I love the original, but in everything I've seen since, Gervais has been sort of one-note. His bit is funny, but it's basically the same bit repeated. Carell, on the other hand, is vastly different in "The Office," "The 40 Year Old Virgin," "Little Miss Sunshine," and even his correspondent character on TDS -- except for always being funny and making me want to hug him.
In other entertainment news, I'm in the middle of the first episode of "The Tudors" and it is everything I want in television. Pretty people, lavish costumes, questionable history, violence, and sex. It's a ridiculously good time. JRM's Henry is a bit emo but just smoldering enough, Jeremy Northam is a warm Sir Thomas More, and Sam Neil is absolutely delicious in his slimy, mustache-twirling, ocassionally genuinely terrifying take on Wolsey. Anne hasn't shown up yet, but I really liked the actress in "Casanova" so I have high hopes (she certainly looks the part better than Natalie Portman). And I'm quite impressed with the actress playing Katherine of Aragon, which is important to me because she's my favorite wife by far.
Oh, "The Office." "Where is the clitoris? What does the female vagina look like?" Stay gold, you guys.
I believe I have found a new favorite cider. I went to the one gourmet place in town to find Strongbow, but I really only drink it out of loyalty nostalgia -- I am well aware that it tastes not unlike piss. In my browsing, I was thrilled to discover several brands I've never heard of, in addition to the usual Woodchucks and Hardcore (Hardcore sucks, btw). I bought two bottles, one from Vermont and one from England. I tried the English one today -- K, "the shockingly different draft cider," in a badass matte black bottle -- and it is magnificent. Fairly dry, not too sweet -- I just wanted to sip it slowly for hours. It's also fairly high in alcohol content, at 6.9% (it's not Old Rosie's 7.4, but Old Rosie is so strong it isn't actually that tasty). I wonder if I can find it at any of the stores at home.
Lastly, a piece of excellent news -- Kate decided that, the end of the semester being stressful and most of us being seniors, she would move the due date for our papers to some time in the future, and all that's due Tuesday is an outline. I hated her at 6:00 in the morning when I had to get up after less than five hours' sleep, I hated her at 8:00 when I was shivering outside in my flipflops staring at a historic house -- but I loved her at 8:28 when she told us that.
::whines:: I want more K!
ETA: re: "The Tudors" -- Hee! They put the beard thing in! It's totally true -- I found it so funny that I stuck it in my Tudor navy paper even though it really didn't have anything to do with the topic. Great Harry's Navy is an excellent read, btw.
