I hadn't seen this image before; it doesn't look like a cap from the film, and I thought I'd seen all the ones from the costume photo shoot). It was in a collection of Elizabeth bases by [livejournal.com profile] 0nce_up0n_atime, and it made my jaw drop because I've never see something so similar to my mental image of Alanna. I've considered Keira before, but this - this is just perfect. The hair (despite the color), the expression - it looks like Alanna from the really old original hardcover of The First Adventure, except prettier. Anyway, I couldn't help making a Lioness-Elizabeth icon, which is appropriate even without the Tamora Pierce association. And then I made one with a bit of dialogue. Take 'em if you want, but please credit the base-maker.

Man, it gives me goosebumps. And makes me want to write about Elizabeth and Alanna swapping war stories over some wine. Alanna would like the Caribbean, she's a warm-weather kind of girl. And they share a certain taste in men.

FOMG something just occured to me. Who do I love more, Jack Sparrow or George Cooper?

...I think my brain just broke ::licks it:: That would be the crossover to end all crossovers, right there. I'm fairly sure I've brought it up before.
Mood:: 'silly' silly

At the rate I'm going, why not? :) I'd probably better read the books for an 87th time first, though...

Write it you must. *nods sagely*

Although you just really made me want an Alanna movie. They'd probably screw it up, but I'd watch it, particularly if they got Keira for it.

Wow, I haven't read those books in forever...I wonder how they'd hold up so many years later.

They hold up great when I reread every 1.5 to 2 years. I lost count of the total somewhere back in ninth grade. The technical quality of Pierce's writing is not as good as her current stuff, but the characters and Tortall are still extraordinary.

I know I've said this before, but man would I ever love to see this crossover. (Also, Pirate King meets King of the Rogues? I'm just saying.)

Keira's closer to my mental image of Kel than Alanna, but it's still a great icon and I'm grabbing the "lioness" one — thanks. :D

No prob :) Keira's tall enough for Kel (actually too tall for Alanna), but I've always pictured Kel as very muscular and solid. Alanna is described as stocky, which doesn't quite fit, but at least Keira's done a cross-dressing role before in "Princess of Thieves."

That's true — the body type doesn't really fit for either, although the flipside is that, as you say, Keira's a plausible crossdresser, with her rather boyish physique. I didn't realize she'd actually done a crossdressing role, though, that's worth looking into. For me it's just something about the face, the set of her jaw (particularly in that photo) and the hair (when it's short/tucked up, anyway) that says Kel — I tend to see Alanna with a more delicate face, I guess, although I know she's not supposed to be especially pretty.

I'm starting the fourth Alanna book right now. While I think that the same story, in the hands of a.... well... better writer would be fantastic, as it is, they're pretty fun. I'm just getting frustrated at the plotlines she starts and then never wraps up, but maybe they'll all come together at the end of this one. I still read the Narnia books like you read these ones. It's like coming home, reading them.

I love those pics of Kiera as Alanna. And I would LOVE for them to meet, bwahaha. Elizabeth + George would = Awesome.

I have a deep and powerful love for Tamora Pierce's Tortall. I must add that the technical quality of her writing improved over the years - I especially recommend the Protector of the Small series, which is about the first female knight after Alanna, and the Trickster duology, which features Alanna's daughter and has a terrific plot (as well as a very Jack-like trickster god).

And that image is fantastic.
