On tonight's episode of "The Daily Show," Jon and Eddie Izzard got into an argument about the American Revolution.
I know there are people here who would want that kind of information. so there you go.
Also, I have a question. Turns out when my dad replaced the burner on the desktop, he upgraded to a DVD burner. So yay! Unfortunately nothing I burn will play in a standard, TV-connected DVD player (though it works with computer programs. They're standard DVD+R discs, so I don't think that's the problem; is it that .avi files won't play? If so, is there some (free) way to convert them to a format that will?
It's not a huge deal - they'll still play on my laptop when I take it overseas, and I can still store the files on the discs. But I would like someday to have a more versatile copy of the stuff that's taking up space on my hard drive right now.
Eee, Stephen's doing the story about the guy jumping on the popemobile. I just appreciate the opportunity to say "popemobile." Hee. "He looks like a big napkin! He looks like a big napkin!"

You have to convert the file. When you bought the DVD burner it should have come with software. Many manufacturers bundle Nero or some other burning software with the hardware.
That's what you want. That software can take your .avi and transcode it into playable DVD format. The downside is that those pieces of software are slow as molasses at transcoding and burning. But it's the sort of thing you can setup at night and it will be finished by morning. Because I'm talking upwards of 4 hours for it finish one job.
If you want a faster, more customized job you have to work with a bunch of different pieces of software that are a little more arcane.
