Awww. Angelina Jolie was on TDS tonight, and I didn't realize she and Jon are friends. They clearly adore each other, and Jon has a geekboy crush on her. Would that group of people not have the best cookout ever? Jon and Angelina and Brad Pitt and George Clooney and Matt Damon and Stephen Colbert and Steve Carrell, and maybe Sam Bee, and Nancy Walls, and even Julia Roberts could come if she wants to, and all their kids could run around eating watermelon and being adorable. I will keep my Saturday afternoons open for the rest of the summer, you guys.

One thing I love about TCR is its canon/continuity/storyline, which is appropriate since "Stephen Colbert" is a character: his ongoing feud with Barry Manilow, his affinity with Papa Bear O'Reilly, his love for Melinda Gates and Soledad O'Brien, his hatred of bears, his frozen manjuice, his Black Friend Alan (and he has a gay friend now too, doesn't he? - add to that his mancrushes), his Catholicism, Charlene...man, Colbert is awesome and TCR is awesome. I couldn't pick a favorite between the two; I will say that TCR is more easily amusing, no matter how biting Stephen's points can be - but I really need to hear Jon's report every night, especially when his anger and bitterness over whatever horrendous thing is happening in Washington that day cracks through his TV persona. Comedy Central has my eternal thanks for basically putting up the whole of every episode online, because I need it to maintain my sanity when I can't watch it on TV.

Also, I flipped on "Homeward Bound" on Animal Planet and man, there is precious little in cinema that makes me sob harder than the dogs and the cat coming down that hill to their family at the end - in the original, too. I love all my animals. And with that, I bid you all goodnight.

TDS and TCR are on the INTERWEBS? How did I not know this? You just MADE my LIFE. *draws tiny hearts around Stewart & Colbert*

Yup, if you go to comedycentral.com and go to either show, you can look up videos of show segments. I think they even have the hand-overs up now. It rocks.

Oh yeah, Tad! And isn't Jimmy his poor put-upon producer?

I think that sounds right.

I should really see if we get that station.

The thing that really bothers me about my dad is that he's so homophobic he'll change the channel anytime someone says the word "gay," hence the fact that the first ever episode of TCR I've ever seen was cut short and we ended up watching... boring news.

Maybe it's just me, but Stephen Colbert seems somewhat violently anti-gay.

No no no no. Colbert incorporates homophobia into his right-wing "Stephen Colbert" show persona so that he can skewer it like he skewers other aspects of the Bill O'Reilly template. His frequent admiration of good-looking male celebrities reinforces the hypocrisy at which he's poking fun.

I assume they met doing Playing By Heart, though a movie with that size cast wouldn't automatically ensure lifelong friendship. Did you ever see it? It's really sweet. Not Love Actually level, but it's a great comfort film.

I know! I saw this morning that Matthew McConaughey has been named People's Bachelor of the Year. I can't wait to see what Stephen has to say about that.

Hee! I hope he brings it up. Is it in conjunction with the Most Beautiful People list? I feel like that would work its way into his broadcast.

I have no idea. I *think* the Bachelors of the Year is a separate list from the Most Beautiful People, but I don't follow People very well. :D
I just read about it in the newspaper the other day and thought about Stephen.
