::flails:: My love for "1776" is just unparalleled.

Hancock: Mr. Wilson, in your need to be liked you have once again forgotten that Delaware cannot second its own motion!
(ten minutes later)
Wilson: Delaware seconds!
Hancock:...
Wilson: Oh my god!

I love Hancock's shouting. He's an angry emo president of Congress, and who can blame him.

Thomas Jefferson is truly our hottest founding figure. Not that Washington doesn't have his charms. Washington, Washington, six-foot-eight, weighs a fucking ton...Seriously, if anyone hasn't seen this yet? Click! (A bit unsafe for work.)

Aww crap, now I'm gonna have it stuck in my head for two days ago. Also must point out that blame should be laid at [livejournal.com profile] doolabug's feet for showing it to me.

Oooh, oooh, my favorite song! "Mr. Adams, leave me alooooone!" "But life is more than sexual combustability! (Bustability! Bustability! Com-bust-a-bil-ityyyy!)" And the one thing you get in the movie that's missing from the cast recording is the dancing. The revival cast recording is pretty great, though - Brent Spiner plays Adams and, while he can't approach the awesomeness that is William Daniels, he does have a better voice. And Rutledge's voice is incredible.

....Okay, I'll shut up. At least I don't have to cut for spoilers! Psssst, the resolution on independency passes!

I desperately need a 1776 icon.

Adams: May I present myself - Mr. Adams.
The Jeffersons: ::make out::
Adams: ..John Adams?
The Jeffersons: ::snoggage::
Adams: And Mr. Franklin - the inventor of the stove?
The Jeffersons: ::suck face::

Incredible

ETA: Just one more! "A committee dedicated to the keeping of secrets, designated as the...Secrets Committee." We pirates don't have much imagination and all that. And McKean has the most beautiful overdone Scots accent since Jacques in "Lady and the Tramp." It's the messenger boy! I love how he just clomps in,, all bowlegged, drops his message on the table, and clomps right back out. And Washington's sad sack, Eeyore dispatches. "That man would depress a hyena," indeed.

Okay, I'm going to bed now, for reals. We just watched it a couple of months ago in the underground film club - biggest success of the semester, actually - and I'm going to have to buy it before I go to England anyway.

I'm watching it too. I love Adams and if that Adams in between Jefferson's arms during "But Mr. Adams" isn't fodder for Adams/Jefferson slash I don't know what is! lol

1776 is awesome.

Oh God, I'm watching the vid you posted. This will be in my brain for days. "Save the children but not the British children."

Muahaha. "He's coming, he's coming, he's coming..." There's also a Jefferson parody of this one, which isn't very funny except for "He'll bone women, but not the white women..."

Heeeee! I don't care how pretty Martha Jefferson is or how historically OTP John/Abigail may be, Adams and Jefferson are so gay for each other. This movie should be required viewing in every American History class. AND IN LIFE.

I agree. ;)

And Ben Franklin would watch.

"Cool, Cool Considerate Men" is THE slash ball of the 18th century. A whole cast of men dancing with each other. *gA*

I was so glad they kept it in! I was afraid they'd cut it.

Speaking of slash, I noticed last night at the end of the song, Dickinson gets in the carriage with Wilson and puts his arm around him!

Of course, the whole movie has instances of Dickinson/Wilson slash. lol

I love the song too. Especially Hancock: "What? The British Crown? or the British half-crown?"

Many, many years ago, someone I knew wrote an Adams/Jefferson story. It was long before LOTR and the term RPS hadn't even been invented. I never read it, but I'm sure that knowing her, it was appropriately filthy.

I desperately need a 1776 icon.

I own it on DVD and screencapping software. What scene in particular were you thinking of? :)

Oooooh! That would be so neat! I'm not picky - just something of Adams when he's haranguing :) Or perhaps that bit of "But Mr. Adams" where he and Jefferson are face to face?

I'll have you know that I put it on just now and this is all your fault.

I am very amused.

Missed the first hour though. :-(

Muaha! My evil plan is working! Have you seen it before? If not, must rent - there's great Congress-stuff in the first hour.

Nooo I haven't seen it before. Where has it been all my life?!

I have no idea why it's been so neglected over the years, both the musical and the movie. I only saw it because I had a funny history teacher in 8th grade who had us watch it in class.

Man, you'd love Abigail Adams. You'd probably also love Martha, a 19-year-old constantly seducing her husband away from the deliberations ...

You should listen to the soundtrack, sometime, of the Brent Spiner version on Broadway. Seriously.

::points above:: I have it. Listen to it obsessively. Spiner is a much better singer than Daniels, although I miss the original Franklin.

Gimme a break, man. I only have an English degree; they haven't taught us to read yet. (I did skip over that part in favor of skimming the parts about Daniels and slash, I confess.)

I went to an off-Broadway performance several years ago and the actor who played Adams sounded EXACTLY like Bill Daniels. Looked nothing like him, but sounded like him. Holy cow.

Hello! I've been a fan of yours for quite a while. May I friend you? Sorry to start fangirling on your journal about this already, but I don't know anyone else who likes 1776 (or would go see dead plasticized bodies, really):

1776! That's my favorite song too: "Homicide! Homicide!"

I get chills when Rutledge sings the triangular trade song.

Er, do you want an icon? Of something? I extend the hand of friendship in icon form.

HOLY SHIT THAT VIDEO :D

::stares at picture for several minutes:: Oh, you were saying something...? Yes, by all means, friend away! :) This journal's a bit quiet on the fic front lately, but I do blather on on a fairly regular basis. And oooh! Oooh! I would love an icon! That's a gorgeous cap.

Hi! I came across your journal through one of your fics [which I loved :)], and I had to comment because I saw 1776 for the first time this week as I was channel surfing. It was not something I thought I would like, but it was silly and adorable and I loved it :)

(and I also went to see the bodies exhibit - really cool!)

Mind if I friend you?
