Did you know that Trigger played Olivia de Haviland's horse in "The Adventures of Robin Hood" before his cowboy days?

Did you know that Trigger has his own IMDB page?

I do not know how I have lived twenty-two years without possessing this information. Or, you know, however long IMDB has been around. And I'm only half-joking. I've never seen the stuffed Trigger, but I did see stuffed Misty and Stormy in Chincoteague. That was a sad little museum. Although we got a moment of excitement when one of Misty's cleverer descendents pulled the latch on his stall and started to barge out. I shoved him back in while Mom flipped out. Good times.

I wonder if Benji is on IMDB as well? Oh he is! Higgins the Dog! Sadly, Justins Keepin Time, who played Black Beauty in the 1994 version, is not. But Terry, the Cairn terrier who played Toto, has a page. My dad's always saying how I used to watch "The Wizard of Oz" so constantly (this is earlier than I can remember) that he started watching only one character per viewing, and thus he realized how well-trained that dog was. Does anyone know any good books about classic Hollywood? The brief bits in my American film text were so interesting.

...This is officially the weirdest and most time-wasting post I have ever made. Shutting up now.

You may not also be aware that Trigger is in the Roy Rogers & Dale Evans Museum in Branson, Mo. He and the family's other effects were moved there a few years ago from their former location (somewhere in California, I think?) when the museum opened. If I remember correctly, you're now half a country closer to the horse than it used to be!

(On another note: Hopefully you got my joke as such over at [livejournal.com profile] geek_mama_2's post. Fangirls with no sense of humor - I don't mean you - wear me out.)

My dad's seen Trigger and described it as one of the creepiest things ever. Misty was really sort of saddening, so I understand.

Yeah, about that - when did knowledge of common emoticons pass out of vogue? I must've slept late that day.

Well, I thought maybe she was a friend of yours, which I could understand. However, if not, I'm sort of concerned she's one of [livejournal.com profile] mskatej's buddies, since she's been inviting her f-list to play "mock the stupid" with me the last couple of days.

By the way, I don't know what you mean by "old Hollywood" precisely, but you might want to check out Celluloid Soldiers, which is about Hollywood and the war industry, especially during WWII. (The author is a professor of history in Tennessee, as well as the official curator of Sgt. York's estate papers. He also happens to be the guy my friend Tammy married last year, so I might be a tad biased. ;-) )

Oooh, I'll look that one up. I'm not exactly sure what was considered the span of The Golden Age of Hollywood, but I think it was the period I'm interested - the Depression, the Hays Code, the war years, all the famous studio heads and boozed-up stars, that sort of thing. I keep meaning to pick up Errol Flynn's autobiography and the book about the making of "Casablanca" as a start.

You might check other books Birdie's written or co-authored (that's what we call him) - he has a particular affinity for that period of history, and for cinema of the time and earlier. If you get to a point where you'd ever want to ask him anything in particular, I can hook you up with his school e-mail address.

Misty and Stormy are in this craptastic little house museum (or at least they were ten years ago). The second we walked in, my mother leaned over and whispered, "I'm so sorry." It was so sad, them just standing there stiffly, with their glassy eyes...
