the Dalaverse

I am off to Galveston, TX to visit my uncle. It's the first time my family has flown all together since before I can remember, so it should be interesting. I've had people look at me askance when I say I'm going on vacation in Texas, but it is mostly because Uncle Bob lives there and we never get to see him. Also, he loves going out to eat and will probably pay for every meal. I'm just saying. And at least there are beaches. Even relief from the heat, by a few degrees.

Taking my laptop with me in case the hotel has 'net access. I am looking forward to landing in Houston and seeing people wear cowboy hats in utter sincerity. If anybody can think of stuff to do in Galveston, please suggest it (I understand there is a tallship?) What I'd like to do is go LJ-visiting, but I have the parents along and we haven't the time anyway.
