You might think that this LJ is becoming a mere depository for drunkposts. But I ask you, is it REALLY my fault that James's birthday fell within a week of both Halloween and Guy Fawkes Day? I mean, honestly, I don't control the calender!

Anyway, tonight was in deep planning for about a week. We gathered at the staff lounge, where we had one quick drink before heading back out to watch the fireworks. James Guy Fawkes Effigy made his grand entrance at this time, and we all signed his charity shop shirt while he was slung over James's shoulders, while we were waiting for the fireworks. Then - BOOM! LIGHTS! BOOM! SMOKE! and more smoke - lots, lots more smoke. We finally wandered out through the smoke, back to the bar to share another pint and a round.5 of shots (as well as an amusing mixup between lepers and leopards in conversation, and planning of a large CMA trip to Amsterdam) before trooping onwards. There were fourteen of us, which I remember because we did a count twice. We made our winding way to the Crown, which is the archaeologists' pub, and got in the way for the space of one pint. We stopped for a brief period in the Highfield, then we moved onwards yet again, to a kebab shop in Portswood

This is where I had my first chips and cheese in nearly two years, and flist, just let me say that was SO worth the wait. Magnificent, for true and serious.

Once we had finished our chips/kebabs, we continued down the road to a pub whose name I can't now recall, but which was open past the usual closing time, so go mystery pub! It was full of older people who thoroughly approved of our doing the limbo beneath a stack of 25 plastic shotglasses which we nicked from the first round. Eventually we grew tired of irritating the old people, so we meant to move on to the Hobbit. But the Hobbit had a cover charge now, so a few of us went home while the rest of us trooped onwards to Patrick's house (where the infamous Halloween party was held). I might add that Guy Fawkes James Effigy, which we had decided not to burn on behalf of the lovely things written all over his charity shop shirt, was still dangling on James's back. Anywho, we moved from Patrick's house to a party up the street that Christin knew about, which entertained us before Vera (sober goddess that she is) called a cab for herself, Marissa (utterly shitfaced), Apostolis, and me. And thus we journeyed home again, with darling Apostolis guiding almost passed out Marissa to her bed while I stumbled back here.

I love these people. It's hard to convey in words what a great night it was, but it truly was.

I wonder who ended up with the shot glass spirit stick? Probably somebody responsible like Alexandre or Vera. Tonight was not my night to be sober sister, although I did manage to figure out the cab fare. And both Apostolis and Vera overpaid for it, which means I owe them each a pint! Which means more drinking! Which means more archaeofun!

...I'm going to bed now :)

ETA: A bunch of kids are singing my favorite Oasis song outside, "Dont Look Back In Anger." Who's happy? I'm happy.
